The facility, which went into operation with a historic opening in November 240 with the participation of Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, was shown as one of the city's most important environmental projects, while domestic waste was also brought into the economy in this process. As part of the efforts to transform the landfill into an urban forest, an area of 166 decares was also rehabilitated and afforested.
Capacity doubled
The power generation capacity of the facility with an installed capacity of 15 megawatts was increased to 1,5 megawatts in 32 years. The facility, which currently disposes of approximately 162 million cubic meters of methane gas per year, also produces 323 million kilowatt-hours of electrical energy. This amount corresponds to the annual energy use of 190 thousand households. The facility, which also works as an "Education Center", accepts guests of all ages and groups.
