Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank stated that they want to fully reveal the tourism potential of Dara, one of the most important city walls of the world, and said, “With the Dara Ancient City Ruins Landscaping and Restoration Project, which we supported with the Attraction Centers Support Program, we made the ancient city shine like a star. We transferred 4 million liras to the project, which is managed by the Mardin Museum Directorate. With the project, we improved the infrastructure conditions of the ancient city. We have carried out the restoration and protection of the city walls with great care and made the landscaping.” said.
In his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Landscaping and Restoration of the Ancient City of Dara Ruins, held by the Dicle Development Agency, Minister Varank drew attention to the fact that Anatolia, where three continents meet and has four coasts, has been one of the most favorite living areas of humanity for thousands of years. Pointing out that the region, which has been home to different civilizations for thousands of years, has a rich historical heritage in every period, Varank said, “Today, our country, especially the historical peninsula in Istanbul, from Cappadocia to Hattusa, from Ephesus to Çatalhöyük, from Nemrut to Göbeklitepe. It is the home of many civilizations.” he said.

Stating that the future cannot be built with only material power, Varank said that great civilizations are built on past accumulations and that states are long-lived to the extent of their spiritual values. Emphasizing that they approach the country's civilization heritage with great love in this context, Varank said, "We are reviving these works, which unfortunately did not find the value they deserve before us. We unearth our historical artifacts, which are hidden under the ground like a gem, and present them to the attention of our citizens. We open our material and moral values, which were left unattended in the past, sometimes by negligence or intentionally, to the use of our citizens. Of course, these works make great contributions to our country not only in terms of culture but also in terms of tourism. Thanks to these regions, which are important tourism destinations, the number of foreign tourists coming to our country is increasing day by day.” he said.

Emphasizing that Mardin is one of the pearls of Mesopotamia, Varank said, “It is a city where people of different religions, cultures, languages and beliefs have lived together in peace for centuries. Our city, which has been known for years with the ugly attacks of terrorist organizations, unfortunately fell far behind its potential when tourism came to the agenda. Today, however, it has just begun to find the value it deserves with the peaceful environment established by the AK Party governments. Mardin, which gained metropolitan status a short time ago, has made great progress with the investments of our governments. With the investments we made, we gave Mardin a modern look. Mardin offers its visitors a magnificent feast of history with Mardin houses, Deyrulzafaran Monastery, Abbaralar, Mor Gabriel Monastery, Kasımiye Madrasa and Old Midyat, built with stonework beyond history.”
SECOND TOURISM DESTINATION
Stating that they continue to invest in Mardin, Varank said, "Now, we are opening the Dara Ancient City Ruins, which can be defined as the Ephesus of the East, with new arrangements and restoration works. Dara Antique City is the second most important tourism destination after Mardin's historical settlement. Located 32 kilometers from the city center, Dara bears traces of many civilizations. It is estimated that the foundations of this ancient city, which is an open-air museum, date back to 2 years ago. This place is recorded as one of the most important trade centers of Mesopotamia. The city, which witnessed great wars, served as the last stronghold of the Byzantine Empire in the Southeast for years. The ruins of a church, palace, bazaar, dungeon, armory, cistern and dam can still be seen in the city today.
