Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department organized a fire extinguishing and rescue drill at the Türk Telekom Building in Cumhuriyet Square as part of the Fire Brigade Week activities. Firefighters, who responded to the fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the building within minutes, as per the scenario, rescued those trapped in the building with a successful operation.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department organized a joint fire drill with Türk Telekom Provincial Directorate within the scope of Fire Week events celebrated between September 27 and October 3. Within the scope of the exercise, the fire in the teahouse on the fourth floor of the Türk Telekom building; Two firefighters from the central group, a ladder vehicle, an AKS 110 rescue vehicle, as well as 2 firefighters, 14 of whom were paramedics, were intervened. Crews rescued a person who had climbed to the roof in panic, on a stretcher, using the free descent technique. An injured person, who was also trapped in the tea house, was rescued by the teams with a successful operation. Afterwards, the fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters.

We must be prepared for emergencies

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Head İsmail Derse said that by organizing drills within the scope of Firefighting Week, they wanted to raise awareness among citizens and draw attention to the work of firefighters. Emphasizing the importance of these exercises in order to ensure that individuals and institutions can intervene in emergencies until the firefighters arrive, İsmail Derse said: “Our whole goal is to involve citizens and workplaces in such studies. We want to ensure that such institutions and individuals are prepared for emergencies by conducting better, planned exercises.” Within the scope of the exercise in Cumhuriyet Square, citizens were also informed about possible methods of responding to possible tube fires in their homes.
