DİHA (Vertical Take-off Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), developed by Baykar Defense, successfully carried out its first flight test.

The development activities of DİHA, which was introduced to the public for the first time in 2019, are successfully carried out by Baykar Defense. Bayraktar DİHA, which has four electric motors for landing/take-off and one gasoline engine for flight, successfully completed its first flight test in the past weeks.

I savunmasanayist.co According to the information obtained by; DİHA's flight test activities were divided into two phases. In the first phase, it is aimed to perform fixed-wing flight tests with a gasoline engine. In the second phase, it is aimed to perform flight tests with rotary wing, that is, electric motors. Baykar Defense has successfully completed flight tests with a domestically produced gasoline engine. For this, a landing gear was integrated under the DİHA. Rotary wing flight tests are expected to be completed within this year.

Having a very small architecture, DİHA has an extremely low radar cross-sectional area. In DİHA, which is very difficult to detect by radar systems, an electro-optical (EO) system called OCTOPUS, produced in Latvia, is used. With this EO payload, laser marking can be performed from a range of <15 kilometers. However, the development activities of the domestic electro-optical system continue. DİHA, which is expected to undertake important tasks with its vertical landing and take-off feature, will also be able to land/take off from the helipads of warships.

The 12-horsepower gasoline engine used in DİHA and developed with domestic resources has two-stroke and electronic fuel injection. DİHA, which does not use a carburetor, can thus operate at higher altitudes with greater safety. In addition, the autopilot in DİHA determines the fuel throw. In this way, the vehicle can stay in the air for up to 12 hours.

Using a common subsystem with other Baykar Defense products, DİHA is controlled via a bag-type ground control station. The flight data of the vehicle, which has a control range of <150 kilometers, is automatically recorded by the artificial intelligence computer.

DİHA is expected to start mass production in 2022.
