Istanbul's first Mobile Pedestrian Stop was put into service during the European Mobility Week. The specially designed stop, which offers pedestrians and cyclists the opportunity to rest in greenery, is getting ready to meet with Istanbulites at many points of the city.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) put the first pedestrian stop (parklet) into the service of Istanbulites. The Mobile Pedestrian Stop, which functions as a public space and resting place for pedestrians and cyclists in the city, was put into service on September 16, the first day of the European Mobility Week, on Hakimiyet Milliye Street in Üsküdar district.
The project was implemented with WRI Turkey, an international research institute working on sustainable cities, and the Healthy Cities Partnership, which works to prevent diseases and injuries. The station attracted the attention of Istanbulites from the first day. Some used it as a canopy. Some sat and rested. It has already become a meeting place for young people.
Mobile Pedestrian Stop, which will start touring Istanbul as of Saturday, September 18, will be on Beşiktaş Ihlamurdere Street on September 18-19, on Şişli Halaskargazi Street on September 20-21, and on Abdi İpekçi Street in Şişli district on Wednesday, September 22. will be at.

Stating that they have been working for a more environmentally friendly and walkable city with reduced traffic in the last 2,5 years, İBB Transportation Department Head Utku Cihan said, “It is very important to change and consolidate transportation habits with projects that will raise awareness in the society in terms of sustainable transportation policies in the long term and have on-site applications.”
Emphasizing that they attach great importance to making bicycle transportation and pedestrian transportation the preferred mode of transportation, especially in short distance journeys, in line with the vision of 'Walkable Istanbul', Cihan said, “With our projects encouraging walking and cycling and the awareness to be created by the Mobile Pedestrian Stop application, Istanbul residents will walk more and more in the long run. We believe he will ride a lot of bikes,” he said.
