The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced that the naval operations launched against oil pollution originating from Syria in the Mediterranean have come to an end. Within the scope of cleaning works, 20 thousand km2 of sea surface was scanned.
After the oil pollution originating from Syria in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure was vigilant and intervened in the region immediately.
According to the information obtained from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure officials; After the Nene Hatun Emergency Response Ship operated by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, Seyit Onbaşı Fuel Collection Ship started to return to Istanbul. Authorities reported that private tugboats have also finished their work. Thus, the naval operations launched in the Mediterranean against oil pollution came to an end.
20 THOUSAND KM2 AREA SCANNED
Providing information about the cleaning works, the authorities stated that a total area of 20 thousand km2 was dredged in the sea. In addition, the entire region was observed from the air by UAV and helicopter.
335 SHIP INQUIRY ABOUT POLLUTION
One thousand 82 meters of the barriers brought to İskenderun Port from Tekirdağ UDEM were used in cleaning works.
Ship Traffic Services made inquiries about pollution to 335 ships in the region. While 330 ships reported no pollution, 5 ships reported pollution. No pollution was found in the sea surface scanning made at the coordinates.
Struggle work; A total of 76 personnel from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and the General Directorate of Maritime, including 52 marine and 128 land personnel, participated.
