Within the scope of its research for the 32nd Summer Olympic Games held in Tokyo this year, Twentify has published a report containing many numerical data on both sports branches and audiences.
Many events in the fields of culture, art and sports had to be canceled last year due to the pandemic. Perhaps the most important of these was the Olympic Games. The Olympic Games, which were postponed to 2021 and took place in Tokyo between 23 July and 8 August, were followed with enthusiasm by sports fans.
Sport is a great passion that makes most people feel positive and motivated, both spiritually and physically. We all see closely how excitedly popular sports are followed, especially in Turkey. The research company Twentify conducted a research on the Olympic Games and mapped the data of the Olympics in numbers. The research conducted through the Bounty mobile application was carried out with 1.035 participants representing Turkey in terms of age, gender and socio-economic status.
According to the results of the research, the most followed or enjoyed watching sports were archery (55%) and volleyball (53%). The majority of the participants find Turkey successful in the Olympics and think that we can be even more successful in branches such as athletics and basketball.
Highlights of the Olympics
According to the research, 55% of the participants in the representation of Turkey follow the Olympics.
Two branches that are closely followed are volleyball and archery, as well as branches such as boxing, athletics and wrestling. In addition, according to the results of the research, it is seen that the interest in football and basketball in the previous period has shifted to branches that are highlighted by success. The inferences that can be made from this result are; The interest in branches that are successful as a country increases more and the athletes in that branch are known more.
Contrary to the first period, the interest in football, where Turkey was not represented in the Olympics this year, lags behind many branches (21%).
The interest shown in archery and volleyball also shows parallelism with prominent athletes. Before the Olympics, athletes such as Naim Süleymanoğlu, Rıza Kayaalp and Hamza Yerlikaya are replaced by names such as Mete Gazoz and Busenaz Sürmeneli, who stand out with their current successes.
How Successful Is Turkey in the Olympics?
92% of the participants think that Turkey was successful in the Tokyo Olympics. Women agree more (96%) that Turkey is successful.
According to the participants, Turkey needs to achieve more success especially in athletics and basketball branches.
