Within the scope of TEKNOFEST Technology Competitions, the Combating Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Competition organized by BAYKAR, the International Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Competition, which will be held for the sixth time by TÜBİTAK, and the Inter-High School Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Competition, which will be held for the second time, will be held in Bursa this year. Making our country a meeting point for talented students, TEKNOFEST encourages students to conduct scientific and technical studies by directing them to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technologies with UAV Competitions. The Combating UAV Competition, which will be held within the scope of TEKNOFEST, will be held on September 5-9, and the International UAV Competition and High School UAV Competition will be held on September 13-18 at Bursa Yunuseli Airport.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Competitions Gained Great Interest From Students

The interest in the competitions, which are organized to increase and disseminate awareness about UAVs, to monitor and contribute to technological developments in this field, and to provide participants with technical and social experience, is increasing every year. Associate, undergraduate and graduate students of universities participate in the competitions. Within the scope of TEKNOFEST 2021; While 392 teams applied to the Combating Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Competition, where high school and university students and graduates participated, 42 of the teams that applied were qualified for the finals. Among the 679 teams that applied to the International Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Competition, 190 teams made it to the finals. 810 teams applied for the Inter-High School Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Competition, which was held for the second time this year under the direction of TÜBİTAK, and 138 teams qualified for the finals.

The International Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Competition and the High School Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Competition are organized in 3 categories: Rotary Wing, Fixed Wing and Free Duty. As a result of the evaluation of the design reports in three different categories within the scope of the competitions, the successful teams receive preparation support in order to develop their UAVs. Teams that are successful in the detailed design report and detailed design video evaluation are also given participation support in order to take part in the competitions. Within the scope of the competition, teams are expected to perform two different flight tasks. The maneuvering capabilities of the teams' planes are tested and the loads of a certain weight must be left in the predetermined area.

The Fighting Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Competition consists of two categories: Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing. Within the scope of the competition, it is aimed that the young people develop their skills by gaining experience in this field by creating an air-air combat scenario between UAVs in a controlled environment. In the competition, where virtual maneuverability is important, teams must successfully lock onto rival UAVs as many times as possible and avoid being locked by making aggressive maneuvers.

The Fighting UAV Competition will be held on September 5-9, and the International UAV Competition and High School UAV Competition will be held on September 13-18 at Bursa Yunuseli Airport. After the teams complete their flight duties, the teams that are successful and ranked according to the points determined as a result of the evaluations will receive their awards at TEKNOFEST to be held at Atatürk Airport on September 21-26, 2021.

The first prize in the Fixed Wing category of the Fighting UAV Competition was determined as 250 thousand TL, the second prize 150 thousand TL, and the third prize 100 thousand TL. In the Doner Wing category, the first prize will be worth 50 thousand TL, the second prize will be 30 thousand TL, and the third prize will be 20 thousand TL.

In the International UAV Competition, for each category of Rotary Wing and Fixed Wing, the Performance First Prize was determined as 40 thousand TL, the Second Prize was determined as 30 thousand TL, and the Third Prize was determined as 20 thousand TL. Within the scope of the competition, the teams' original designs, sportsmanship, benevolence and use of innovative technology will be examined and Honorable Mention Awards will be given for each category. Within the scope of the National Technology Move, on the condition that the teams design the parts of their UAVs locally; Locality Awards worth 60 thousand TL in total will be distributed in both categories. In addition, the winners in each category will receive the Special Prize. In the Free Duty category of the International UAV Competition, gold and silver performance awards worth 200 thousand TL are waiting for the competitors.

For each category of the High School UAV Competition, Rotary Wing and Fixed Wing, the Performance First Prize will be 25 thousand TL, the Second Prize will be 20 thousand TL, and the Third Prize will be 15 thousand TL. Within the scope of the competition, in addition to Honorable Mention Awards for each category, Special Awards will be given to the winners of each category. Competitors ranked in the Free Duty category of the High School UAV Competition; will win awards worth 380 thousand TL in total in gold, silver, bronze and honorable mention performance categories.

TEKNOFEST, which aims to raise awareness about technology and science in the society as a whole, and to increase the human resources trained in the fields of science and engineering in Turkey, also offers many opportunities for young people participating in Technology Competitions to develop both their personal and professional skills. Young people participating in the competitions have the opportunity to participate in technical trips to Turkey's leading technology companies and to gain network by meeting experts in their fields. In addition to material support, finalists are also provided with training camp, transportation and accommodation support so that they can realize their projects. TEKNOFEST, which also offers the opportunity to do internships in Turkey's leading technology institutions, opens the doors to a bright future for young people. TEKNOFEST Aviation, Space and Technology Festival will be held again at Atatürk Airport in Istanbul between September 21-26, 2021. In order to support the projects of thousands of young people working in these fields, with the aim of increasing the interest of young people in producing and developing national technology, a total of over 7 million TL of material support is provided to the teams that pass the pre-selection stage. Teams that compete in TEKNOFEST and qualify for the ranking will be awarded more than 5 Million TL.
