Under the leadership of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer, the Metropolitan Municipality, which strengthens its public transportation network day by day in order to provide better service to the citizens, is now performing an electric bus test drive. The test drive of the 9-meter electric vehicle sent by TEMSA for testing has begun on city roads.

Electric bus passes many tests

The electric bus, which is 9 meters long and consists of a total of 9 large batteries, was sent to the Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department for testing. The comfort level of the electric bus is tested along with ramping, traction, mileage and fuel consumption. The vehicle, which is also offered for the transportation of the citizens, is sent to both the center and the highland villages. In addition to the traction and comfort power of the vehicle, the satisfaction level of the citizens is also observed. At the end of each expedition, a satisfaction survey is taken from the citizens. When all tests are completed, a cost analysis of the electric vehicle will be made.

President Seçer: “An important study in terms of environmental awareness”

Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer, in his speech at the Metropolitan Municipality Council, said that they started a new study in public transportation and took the electric buses to the test phase. Stating that they look at the traction power, performance, comfort and fuel consumption of the vehicles, Seçer said, “I think they are important studies in terms of environmental awareness. This was the case with CNG bus purchases. If the tests of these electric buses are positive, if their performance is appropriate, and if our municipality brings these buses to our city, we will take a step towards both new generation fuels, environmentally friendly fuels and a modern public transportation more quickly," he said.

“Our aim is to have the tools to leave a good environment for the future”

Bayram Demir, Public Transport Branch Manager of the Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department, stated that they want to renew the inventory of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality with environmentally friendly vehicles and said:

“We have put electric buses, which are renewable energy, into the test phase. We are currently looking at the traction, performance, comfort and fuel consumption of our vehicles. Following these tests, if we have old vehicles or we plan to convert our diesel fueled vehicles to electric vehicles. Currently, the vehicle in front of us is a 9-meter vehicle with a capacity of approximately 35 passengers, with a capacity of 60 passengers including standing passengers. Our biggest goal is to have vehicles that provide ecological balance to people and leave a good environment for the future without harming the environment. Of course it all depends on the test results. We are currently testing our vehicles both in the countryside, in the city center, and at night and daytime temperatures. In our test drives, we try to measure citizen satisfaction as well as traction because electric buses are not as loud as diesel vehicles or vehicles with other fuel types, they are quieter. Therefore, citizens test their comfort. They look at both the suspension system and the sound system. At the end of each trip, we receive a satisfaction survey from our citizens. The final decision will be made as a result of both the citizen satisfaction survey and the performance of the vehicle.”

“There is no engine sound like the others”

Citizens traveling by electric bus were particularly pleased with its quietness. A citizen said his thoughts about the bus, “It's nice that it's electric. Spacious and quiet. No engine noise like others. The seats are comfortable. It is a very beautiful, stylish bus” while expressing; Another citizen said, “It is very good that it is quiet. It is better,” he said.
