Digestion is as important as food in healthy and proper nutrition. Dr. Fevzi Özgönül gave important information on the subject. What is healthy eating? Which foods are healthier and which are unhealthy? How should we cook food?

What is healthy eating?

Eating healthy, consuming only organic products, eating seasonal vegetables and fruits are not detox cures that we do by consuming only salads and fruits. Eating healthy is a form of nutrition in which we fully meet the nutrients necessary for the body to maintain its integrity.

When talking about healthy eating, a picture of a person doing sports and salad and fruit are seen in the background. In fact, only salad and fruit meet a very small part of the body's needs. Especially if olive oil is not added to the salad, the portion it meets is much less.

Our bodies have basic needs and daily needs.

The basic needs of our body; are the needs that are necessary for it to maintain its own integrity. These; proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and some metals. Our body can meet these needs by eating from the Aegean cuisine, the Mediterranean cuisine, the Eastern Anatolian cuisine or the cuisine of another country. However, while meeting all this need, we should not forget that the foods we eat must also be digested and become beneficial to the body. If there is no digestion, we can eat as many healthy foods as we want, we will not be healthy.

The daily needs of our body are; They are carbohydrates, fiber, calcium, omega 3 fats.

Fibers: It is also present in vegetables, fruits, wheat, also in oatmeal and lentils.

Calcium: We can also get it from milk and dairy products, green leafy vegetables, broccoli, spinach, arugula, almonds, beans and dried apricots.

Omega 3: We can get it from foods such as walnuts, hazelnuts, fish oil, tuna, salmon, soybean oil, purslane, brussels sprouts, purslane, corn oil, hazelnut oil, walnut oil.

Carbohydrate:It is present in almost all foods. If you take carbohydrates from foods that are easily digested, that is, easily soluble in water, it can interfere with the digestion of other foods. Easily soluble carbohydrates in water; bread, pastries, pasta, rice, breakfast cereals, all desserts.

Which foods are healthier and which are unhealthy?

In general, it would not be right to discriminate between healthy food and unhealthy food. When it comes to unhealthy foods, the first things that come to mind are GMO foods, that is, genetically modified foods, foods that use hormones or many chemicals during production.

When we say healthy foods, we describe them as foods that our digestive system can digest and obtain the substances that the body needs. No matter how healthy food is produced and contains the needs of the body, if our body cannot produce enzymes that can digest that food, then it cannot use that food. For this reason, it is also important that we choose the food according to our general nutritional habits in food selection.

Although we generally think that we eat very healthy, the most important reason why we cannot maintain our body integrity and start to gain weight is because we cannot digest the food we eat. Even if the food we eat is healthy, our body cannot use it.

How should we cook food?

Each food has its own ideal cooking method. Cooking times are also different. You can find it best in the recipes of local dishes that have been formed through years of observation and experimentation. Any cooking technique can be applied as long as it is not subjected to excessive heat treatment and its nutritional value is not affected too much.
