According to the statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the “2021 International Diyarbakır Zerzevan Sky Observation Event” will take place on September 2-4 at the 3-year-old Zerzevan Castle, which is on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Tentative List. will be held in
Professional and amateur astronomers will examine the event to be organized under the coordination of TUG.
The event, supported by the Ministries of Industry and Technology, Youth and Sports, TÜBİTAK, Turkish Space Agency (TUA), Diyarbakır Governor's Office and Karacadağ Development Agency, will bring together more than 1000 astronomy enthusiasts from all over Turkey.
Children will also have the opportunity to study the sky with giant telescopes, accompanied by professional astronomers, by participating in the event with their families.
THE CENTER OF ASTRONOMY THROUGHOUT HISTORY
Participants will get together with experts at the Zerzevan Castle, which is considered one of the top 10 places for sky observation in Turkey, and will also get information about the astronomy studies carried out thousands of years ago at the Mithras Temple, the best preserved in the world.
During the event, which aims to increase the interest of young people in space with the vision of the National Space Program, seminars, competitions, many workshops and events related to astronomy will be held.
The opening of the event will be held by the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, the Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu and the Governor of Diyarbakır Münir Karaloğlu.
REGISTRATION WILL END ON AUGUST 20
Registration for the Diyarbakır Zerzevan International Observation Event, which is open to participants from all age groups and is free of charge, will end on 20 August. The winners of the event will be announced after the evaluation. In case of a large number of applications, the participants will be determined by lot.
PCR test will be requested from those who want to participate in the event to be held under Kovid-19 measures. Applications can be made through the address karacadag.gov.tr.
