China has launched a project to build a constellation of 36 low-orbit satellites to gather information to predict natural disasters and monitor urban emergencies. Tianjin Satcom Geohe Technologies Co., Ltd. The project, undertaken by B.C., was unveiled at the Wenchang spacecraft launch center in southern China's Hainan Province.
Guo Jianqiang, head of the technology firm based in northern China's Tianjin Municipality, said that the first satellite will be launched into space and put into service in June 2022. All 36 satellites will have been launched by the end of May 2023 to complete the constellation.
China Geological Survey official Guo said the satellite network will provide high-resolution images that will help observers identify millimeter-level geological deformations to quantify the odds of geological disasters such as landslides, collapses and collapses.
Satellite data combined with geological survey and monitoring data captured by ground sensors in geohazard-prone areas can significantly improve the accuracy and timing of natural disaster forecasting, Guo said.
