A selection of black and white Istanbul photographs by Ara Güler, the most important representative of photography in Turkey, who has gained international fame, will be opened to visitors at the Galata Tower.
The exhibition, which will be held in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ara Güler Archive and Research Center, will feature 75 black and white photographs that will be put on display together with Ara Güler's explanations.
The opening of the exhibition, which will be brought together by Deputy Minister Özgül Özkan Yavuz with art lovers, Doğuş Group Art Consultant Çağla Saraç, Ara Güler Museum Archive and Research Center Director Umut Sülün, Ara Güler Museum Corporate Communications Manager Zeynep Özkaya, Doğuş Holding Corporate Communications Department Head Bahar Erbengi and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Yahya Coşkun, Deputy Director General of Museums.
The ceremony will be held at 93:16 for the Ara Güler Photography Exhibition, which will be opened to visitors on August 11.00, the artist's 3rd birthday. The exhibition can be visited in the gallery on the XNUMXrd floor of the Galata Tower until the end of October.
Special Importance Is Given to Temporary Exhibitions
Restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2020, the Galata Tower was reopened as a museum after the reinforced concrete additions and cafeteria were removed.
In the Galata Tower, which was the capital of three universal civilizations such as Rome, Eastern Rome and the Ottoman Empire, examples of artifacts that have a history dating back 8 years and symbolizing these periods of Istanbul were also included.
The tower, in which a part of the chain that closes the entrance to the Golden Horn can be seen, was included in the UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List in 2013, together with the Genoese Towers in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
Above the entrance gate, in 1832, Sultan II. The Galata Tower, which contains the sixteen-verse epitaph of the poet Pertev, which is about the renovation commissioned by Mahmut, has been the subject of every field of Turkish art, including cinema, photography, painting, and many stories and poems.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism gave special attention to temporary exhibitions in the museum arrangement of the tower. Galata Tower has hosted 9 exhibitions so far.
The exhibitions “National Struggle with Little Known Photographs”, “Istanbul with Gravures” and “Mehmet Akif and the National Anthem” are among these exhibitions covering important days in our history.
