RASAT, the first national observation satellite designed and manufactured in Turkey, has completed its 10th year in orbit. RASAT, whose design life is planned to be 3 years, has proven that Turkish engineers and technicians can produce a satellite that can last for a long time in the space environment. Launched from Russia on August 17, 2011, RASAT continues its mission successfully.

THE FIRST NATIONAL GROUND OBSERVATION SATELLITE

The first National Earth Observation Satellite, RASAT, was produced by TÜBİTAK UZAY. No consultancy or external support was received during the production process of RASAT, which is the second remote sensing satellite of TÜBİTAK UZAY after BİLSAT.

GOING OVER TURKEY 4 TIMES A DAY

RASAT passed over Turkey 10 times a day for 4 years. It took 7.5 meters black and white, 15 meters multi-band resolution images from all over the world without any restrictions. The images from RASAT, which operates in a synchronous orbit with the sun at an altitude of approximately 700 kilometers, are downloaded to the ground station in TÜBİTAK UZAY.

IMAGES ARE ON GEZGİN

After the necessary corrections are made at the station, the images are uploaded to GEZGİN, the first domestic satellite image portal. The images obtained by RASAT can be accessed by logging in with the e-Government password on the website Yolcu.gov.tr.

FREE OF CITIZEN SERVICE

Images obtained free of charge from GEZGİN; It can be used in many areas such as identifying oil spills in the seas, monitoring urban development, land use, agriculture, monitoring water levels in dams, city planning and mapping.

TRANSFER TO NATIONAL EQUIPMENT GÖKTÜRK-2

in RASAT; There are national satellite equipment such as flight computer, x-band transmitter and infrared camera. These components were also used in the reconnaissance satellite GÖKTÜRK-2012, which was launched into space in 2. TÜBİTAK UZAY, which has successfully fulfilled its mission of creating an infrastructure and information unit in the field of space with RASAT, has taken this task even further with the GÖKTÜRK-2 Satellite.

IMECE AND TÜRKSAT 6 A ARE NEXT

TÜBİTAK UZAY also undertakes the design and production of both the sub-meter resolution earth observation satellite IMECE and the first domestic communication satellite TÜRKSAT 6A. These two satellites are planned to be launched into space in the coming years.

CELEBRATED ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY AT IDEF

A model of RASAT, which successfully completed its 10 years in space, started to be exhibited at the 15th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2021). The model attracts the attention of those who visit the fair. TÜBİTAK UZAY officials are giving information to the visitors about RASAT, Turkey's first national observation satellite.
