The logistics sector, whose volume has reached 520 billion TL, continued to grow in the first six months of 2021, when we saw the peak of the pandemic. It is thought that the cargo sector, one of the important sub-items of the logistics sector, employed 100 thousand people in this process. Gökhan Akyürek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GKN Cargo, which has reached the highest growth figures in the cargo sector, said, “By reading the situation created by the pandemic, we predicted that digital shopping will increase and we expanded our customer portfolio in this direction. In the first six months of 2021, we grew by 150 percent, increasing the number of our vehicles from 76 to 130. The number of monthly packages we carry increased from 600 thousand to 1,5 million. Now, with normalization, we see that the retail sector has started to recover. The logistics sector will continue to gain and provide employment.”
The COVID-19 global pandemic has forced the economy to transform with the reality of full shutdown. Sectors that turn the economic pressure created by the complete closure and restrictions into opportunities continue to grow and earn.
The logistics sector, whose volume has reached 520 billion TL, is one of the sectors that turned the crisis into an opportunity. The cargo sector, which has an important place in the logistics sector, provided employment to 100 thousand people in the pandemic and closed the gap of other sectors that lost their jobs. Gökhan Akyürek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GKN Cargo, which has reached the highest growth figures in the cargo sector, evaluated the six months of the sector.
“THE WHO CAN READ THE CONDITIONS BROUGHT BY THE PANDEMIC WON”
Stating that they predicted the impact of full closure and restrictions on consumer behavior early, Gökhan Akyürek said, “By reading the full closure and restrictions created by the pandemic, we were able to see that digital shopping will increase exponentially. By following the trend initiated by new digital initiatives in shopping, we expanded our customer portfolio in this direction. Our decision has paid off. We grew 2021 percent in the first six months of 150, when the pandemic saw its peak. Our number of vehicles increased from 76 to 130. The number of package shipments, which was 600 on average per month, reached 1,5 million," he said.
“WE WATCHED THE RETAIL INDUSTRY RECOVERED AT THE HOLIDAY OF SACRIFICE”
Emphasizing that with the normalization steps taken, the consumer has turned to retail sales, Akyürek said, “Restriction practices that have been going on for more than a year have forced the consumer to shop from digital channels. However, with the normalization, purchasing behavior has turned to the retail sector. Looking at the volume of the products we carried in the past Eid al-Adha, we can say that the retail industry has achieved the best level of the last 2 years. We added 35 vehicles and nearly 150 personnel to support retail shipments before and after the holiday. We are working to ensure 100% customer satisfaction, especially in this period of increased intensity. At this point, we apply our special needs-oriented boutique service model for institutions and individuals.
“INDUSTRY WILL CONTINUE TO GROW”
Stating that digitalization in shopping has spread to all segments of the society and that retail sales have returned to their former levels with normalization, Gökhan Akyürek said, “Internet shopping was a form of consumption that was approached with suspicion before the pandemic and was not preferred by a significant part of the society. The pandemic broke the doubts in this direction and increased internet shopping, albeit forcibly. Today, however, we see that the retail sector has started to recover with normalization. No matter how consumption takes place, logistics (delivery of the product to the desired destination) will continue to be one of the most important items that always remain in the background. As we continue to produce and consume, we will deliver the products to their destination. The logistics sector has a huge volume of 520 billion TL. We believe that this volume and employment will increase.”
