The winners of the Waste Battery Collection campaign, organized for the 24th time this year by the Portable Battery Manufacturers and Importers Association of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the district municipalities, have been announced. This year, 28,3 tons of waste batteries were collected in İzmir.

The Waste Batteries Collection campaign organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Portable Battery Manufacturers and Importers Association (TAP) and district municipalities every year during the environment week has been concluded. Participants in the campaign; children, youth, adults, kindergartens, headman's offices, district municipalities, Bizim Ev Family Child Youth Support Center were evaluated in seven categories. The evaluation in the schools category was postponed due to the distance education of schools due to the coronavirus epidemic. Evaluation in this category will be made in the coming days and the winners will be determined and their awards will be given. Laptop computers, desktop computers, tablet computers and smart boards will be distributed to the winners of the campaign in the other seven categories in the coming days.

They prevent environmental pollution

As part of the campaign aimed at preventing the rapid pollution of natural resources as a result of the free circulation of heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium and lead due to the indiscriminate disposal of waste batteries, 435,6 tons of waste batteries have been collected so far. After the collected waste batteries are separated according to their types in the recycling facilities and entered into the crushing process, the metal-steel parts inside are sorted and sent to the iron-steel industry. The resulting black mass was disposed of in furnaces used in other sectors. Battery types that are not suitable for recycling are also collected in regular landfills in a controlled manner and disposed of by TAP.

  • District of mukhtars: 1. Torbalı Neighborhood Headman, 2. Tuna Neighborhood Headman, 3. Press Site Neighborhood Headman
  • District Municipalities category: 1. Konak Municipality, 2. Karşıyaka Municipality, 3rd Municipality of Çiğli
  • Bizim Ev Family Child Youth Support Center category: 1. Yusuf Akköy, 2. Nurhan Bahur, 3. Tahir Male
