The number of people who lost their lives due to the Covid-19 epidemic in Turkey continues to increase day by day. According to the data of the Ministry of Health, the number of people who lost their lives since March 19, 17, when the first Covid-2020-related death was announced in Turkey, has exceeded 53 thousand. Accordingly, from March 17, 2020, when the first death was announced in Turkey, until August 1, 2021, the actual number of deaths from Covid-19 reached 112 thousand 224. According to the analysis, the number of deaths in 9 cities (Istanbul, Kahramanmaraş, Konya, Bursa, Kocaeli, Bursa, Sakarya, Denizli, Malatya and Tekirdağ) between 17 March 2020 and 1 August 2021 was 46 thousand 665. Compared to previous years, the number of excess deaths in Turkey in this period was determined as 168 thousand 336.
According to the analysis published in Jama, a prestigious academic publication, two-thirds of the deaths all over the world are directly related to Covid 19, and the other third is the death of people who do not go to the hospital or delay their treatment due to Covid. Dr. Başer said, “Based on this calculation method, we have reached the conclusion that 112 thousand 224 people died due to Covid in Turkey due to coronavirus, and 56 thousand 112 people died due to other reasons due to the load brought on the system by Covid. In Turkey, the Ministry of Health made a correction in the number of cases in the summer of 2020, but the number of deaths has not yet been corrected. Unfortunately, we anticipate that there are more than double the number of deaths from Covid-XNUMX in Turkey," he said.
Case-fatality rates declined after vaccination
Stating that Turkey is in a better situation in case-death rates compared to Argentina, England, Russia and Brazil, Başer said, “The total number of cases that can be detected in Turkey until August 1, 2021 is 5 million 777 thousand 833.
