Asking for his pardon and his request accepted, Prof. Dr. Instead of Ziya Selçuk, Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Mahmut Özer was appointed as the Minister of National Education.

According to the Presidential Appointment Decision published in today's issue of the Official Gazette, Prof. Dr. To the Ministry of National Education vacated by Ziya Selçuk, Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ozer was appointed. It was stated that the appointment was made in accordance with Articles 104 and 106 of the Constitution.

3 NEW VICE MINISTER APPOINTMENTS

Deputy Minister of National Education Prof. Dr. Ahmet Emre Bilgili, Prof. Dr. Petek Askar and Dr. Sadri Şensoy was appointed. It was stated that the appointments were made in accordance with Articles 3 and 2 of the Presidential Decree No. 3.

MESSAGE FROM SELÇUK

Minister of National Education Selçuk used the following statements on Twitter regarding his resignation:

“As of today, my duty as the Ministry of National Education has come to an end. Our President, who gave me the opportunity to work for the children of my country, Mr. I would like to express my gratitude to Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

I would like to thank our nation, our education family, and my fellow Ministers with whom I worked.

I wish success to my esteemed colleague Mr. Mahmut Özer, with whom we have carried out many valuable works during my tenure, and to our newly appointed Deputy Ministers.”

WHO IS MAHMUT OZER?

Mahmut Ozer (May 5, 1970, Tokat), Turkish academic and former rector of Bülent Ecevit University, who was re-elected for his second term as of November 17, 2014, former president of ÖSYM and Minister of National Education.

Born in Tokat in 1970, Özer graduated from Tokat Imam Hatip High School in 1988. . He graduated from Istanbul Technical University Electronics and Communication Engineering Department in 1992. After working as an Electronics Engineer at Dalaman Airport, General Directorate of State Airports Authority between 1992-1994, he worked as a lecturer at Gaziosmanpaşa University Tokat Vocational School between 1994-2002.

Özer, who completed his doctorate at Karadeniz Technical University, Institute of Science, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2001, started to work as an assistant professor at Zonguldak Karaelmas University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2002. He received the title of associate professor in 2005 and professor in 2010 at the same university. He has been serving as the vice rector since 2009, after he came first in the rectorate elections held in 2010.[3] Then he was appointed as the rector of Zonguldak Karaelmas University. Özer, who also won the rectorate elections in 2014, was appointed as the rector of Bülent Ecevit University again. 

He served as the Chairman of the Interuniversity Board between August 1, 2015 and August 1, 2016. He continued his duty as the chief editor of the Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences, published by TUBITAK and scanned within the scope of Science Citation Index (SCI) since October 2014, and as the Deputy Chairman of the Vocational Qualifications Authority as the YÖK representative from 15 October 2015. He was appointed as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Education.

He was appointed as the Minister of National Education, replacing Ziya Selçuk, with the decision to appoint the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey, published on 6 August 2021.
