The Coastal Rehabilitation Project, which was initiated by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality to prevent the floods experienced in Mavişehir, which is below sea level, especially during the periods when the sea rises, has come to an end. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerMustafa Özuslu, Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality General Secretary Dr. Buğra Gökçe examined the ongoing works in the region.

Stating that the project is of great importance, the President Tunç Soyer“A problem that has been going on for years is being resolved. In certain periods, this place was under water and people were experiencing great grievances. It's over. The cost of the work reached 37 million liras," he said.

Flamingo Nature Park will be established

Reminding that they will transform this area into Flamingo Nature Park after the completion of the works, Mayor Soyer said, “The project has the aim of returning this area to nature again. This will become a wildlife park. Living parks will be the first application of our dream. Flamingo nature park will appear. Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay also stated that there were floods in the region after the rise of the sea and heavy rains, “This situation made us all sad. We are now solving the problem not with temporary measures, but with permanent solutions. No more flooding here. At the same time, the aesthetic aspect is a very strong work. People were using this shore very actively. They will use it with more pleasure with the arrangement. I would like to thank our president and everyone who contributed to the project.”

Sea water is blocked

The works carried out by the Department of Science Affairs will be completed in September on the 2-kilometer coastline that starts in front of Deniz Kent Restaurant near the Cheesecioğlu Creek and extends to the north, including the Blue Island region. Within the scope of the works, the production of 4 thousand 2 meters of in-water concrete, which was made 88 meters below the ground, was completed in order to prevent the flood that may occur with sea water swell in the coastal region and the passage of sea water under the ground. The remanufactured rock fortification in the front was also completed. 2 meters of the 88-meter-long Kronman concrete, which will prevent the passage of water from the sea side to the land side, has also been built.

The rock fortifications built at 160 cm above sea level in the front will protect the area from the effect of waves. In addition, a 850-meter-long rainwater line is being laid to collect rainwater in residential areas. 750 meters of the line has been completed. The collected water will be delivered to the sea through the pumps at the existing pumping station. Within the scope of the project, there are two sea ladders of 53 and 32 meters in length and bird islets where children will recognize the birds, to strengthen the connection of the people with the sea. This area will also be used for artistic events.
