Dr. Ali Güven Serçe, “Some anatomical disorders such as septum deviation, adenoid, tongue size and elongated uvula can cause this disease. “Methods used for treatment; The use of a device called CPAP, which gives positive air pressure, can be listed as surgical treatments and changes in lifestyle. The use of CPAP is used by means of a silicone mask and provides support to keep the upper airway open. Most patients can easily adapt to this mask. The most preferred surgical treatment is uvulopalatoplasty. In terms of lifestyle measures, obese patients' weight loss, exercises to improve respiratory capacity, and changes in sleeping position can be counted. In this context, lying on the side instead of on the back can give positive results in adult patients.”

CLOSING THE RESPIRATORY WAY CAN BE PREVENTED BY OPERATION

Giving important information about uvulopalatoplasty used in the treatment of OSAS, Op. Dr. Ali Güven Serçe, “With this technique, it is aimed to shorten the uvula and to remove a part of the soft palate, thus preventing the closure of the respiratory tract during sleep. When the uvula is examined anatomically, it has an important place in the upper respiratory tract. With the reduction operation to be performed in this part, the air flow will be greatly relieved. As a result of the advancement of technology and surgical techniques, deviation and flesh size in the nose can also be corrected in the same operation session. Thus, all airways up to the lungs are opened. The results obtained after this operation are really pleasing. Of course, all these should be evaluated by a specialist physician and the most appropriate treatment method should be preferred for the patient," he concluded.
