Nedret Güvenç, one of the legendary names of Turkish cinema, passed away in his sleep yesterday morning. Actor, director and voice actor Nedret Güvenç was 90 years old. Güvenç, who took part in many important projects, received the title of State Artist given by the Ministry of Culture in 1998.

A funeral ceremony will be held for State Artist Nedret Güvenç on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11:30 am at the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage. The artist will be buried in Kilyos Cemetery after the funeral prayer at Teşvikiye Mosque.

Who is Nedret Guvenc?

Nedret Güvenç (Born on September 5, 1930, İzmir – Died on July 31, 2021, Istanbul) is a Turkish actor, director, voice actor and writer.

Having studied singing and piano at the Ankara State Conservatory, the artist decided to focus on theatre. Güvenç, who started theater in 1948 in Izmir, moved to Istanbul when Izmir City Theaters were closed in 1950 and joined Istanbul City Theatres. The artist, who also appeared on the stage as a guest actor at the Ankara State Theater between 1959-1960, returned to Istanbul afterwards. Güvenç, who has played a leading role in numerous theater plays, has many awards in this category.

The artist, who started directing with "The Greatest Gambling" in 1974, joined the "Theater Istanbul" after he retired from Istanbul City Theaters in 1995. He still continues his theatrical work. In 1998, he received the title of State Artist given by the Ministry of Culture. Güvenç also wrote Turkey's 2009 World Theater Day statement. He died on 31 July 2021 in Istanbul at the age of 90.
