Turkey's first sustainable organization “From Coast to Coast Turkey-Greece Film Festival started with the green carpet ceremony. The film 'Ghost' was screened on the first day of the festival. Hope for the future, our joint actions, our long-term and realistic plans, and our respectful understanding of nature and all beings away from populism will grow.”

Turkey's first sustainable organization “From Coast to Coast Turkey-Greece Film Festival”, which will take place in Çeşme between 19-24 August, aims to reduce our carbon footprint with the healing power of cinema.

Organized in cooperation with Çeşme Municipality, Ministry of Culture, General Directorate of Cinema, and İzmir Cinema Culture and Education Association, the "From Coast to Coast Turkey Greece Film Festival" has started.

First in Turkey!

The Coast to Coast Film Festival, the first film festival to be held in Turkey within the framework of sustainability principles, started with great enthusiasm. On the first day of the festival, the film Ghost, directed and scripted by Azra Deniz Okyay, was screened. Film director Azra Deniz Okyay and actress Emrah Özdemir also attended the screening.

Focused on the climate crisis

Speaking at the opening of the festival held in Alaçatı Amphitheater, Çeşme Mayor M. Ekrem Oran said, “We are going through difficult times as a country, and our world is facing a major crisis. We have come to an irreversible point in the damage our means of production and consumption habits have done to the world. It is stated that approximately 8 million tons of plastic waste is thrown into the oceans every year. According to the report of OceansAsia, it has been announced that 1,6 billion masks have accumulated in the oceans during the pandemic process. Today, it is obvious that if we do not take action right now, these disasters will continue to increase and hundreds of millions of people will have difficulties in terms of water and food due to the climate crisis. It is not possible for us to sit with our hands tied in the face of all this pessimistic picture.”

“We will nurture hope”

Talking about the healing power of art, Oran said, “It is the right time to take action and come together in the face of this darkness. Hope for the future, our common actions, our long-term and realistic plans, and our respectful understanding of nature and all beings away from populism will grow. Today, we take a small step towards our hopes by taking shelter in the healing power of art.

We will take many more steps together, we will grow, sprout, come together, and we will leave a sustainable and beautiful world for the future.”

Many Events Will Be Held During the Festival

During the festival, coastal cleaning and underwater shootings will be held on a separate shore of Çeşme every morning with the invited directors and actors. During the day, workshops and masterclasses on directing, on-camera acting and sustainable living will take place. 6 feature films selected from Turkey and Greece will be screened at the Alaçatı amphitheater during the festival.
