Four names from Wheelchair Basketball Super League champion İzmir Metropolitan Belediyespor, named “Lions of İzmir” by İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, were included in the Tokyo Paralympic Games squad.
Wheelchair Basketball League 2020-2021 season champion İzmir Metropolitan Belediyespor is happy to send four names to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Coach Erdinç Kılıç, who carried the Wheelchair Basketball Team to the championship, star players Ahmet Efetürk and Rıdvan Aksoy, and masseur Serkan Sezginci will be in the staff of our crescent-star team that will participate in the 24 Paralympic Games between August 5 and September 2020. Our Wheelchair Basketball National Team is in Group A together with Japan, Canada, South Korea, Spain and Colombia in Tokyo. Group B includes the USA, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Algeria and Iran. Eight teams finishing the group matches in the top four will qualify for the quarter-finals.
Emphasizing that the disabled branches have a special place in the sportive vision of Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, Sports Club President Ersan Odaman said, “The championship won by our Wheelchair Basketball Team, the third place in the Super League achieved by our Amputee Football Team and our success in individual sports are the results of this vision. Mesut Kapan, our Judo Trainer from our club, participated in the Tokyo Olympics. Now we are proud to send four names to the Paralympic Games.”
