The countdown has begun for the UCLG Cultural Summit. The summit, which will be held in İzmir for the first time in Turkey between 9-11 September, aims to ensure the sustainability of the culture, develop collaborative learning, and encourage the sharing of good practices between cities and local governments around the world. There are only a few days left until the fourth of the World Union of Municipalities (UCLG) Culture Summit, hosted by İzmir after a great struggle. Stating that cities play a leading role to give culture a central role in sustainable development, Soyer continued his words as follows: “The summit has two main goals. The first of these is to reinforce the messages regarding the role of culture in sustainable development at the local level with concrete examples of practices and projects. Secondly, the summit will provide visibility to international discussions on the UN 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals, which we are currently in a ten-year action plan, and the New Urban Agenda, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2021.”
