The Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race, which is the scene of great excitement every year, will be held for the 33rd time with the support of IMM. The race, which will be held on Sunday, August 19, with the Covid-22 measures, will take place with the participation of 2 swimmers.
The Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race, which is among the best open water swimming organizations in the world, will be organized by the Turkish National Olympic Committee with the support of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). İBB will play an important role in the realization of the organization. Athletes from Turkey and all over the world will participate in the race, which will start from Kanlıca Pier on Sunday, August 22.
IT WILL START IN KANLICA AND END IN KuruÇEŞME
In the race where local and international swimmers will swim, the athletes will swim the 6,5-kilometer course together with the start. After crossing the Bosphorus, crossing the continents by fathom, they will reach the finish in Kuruçeşme. At the end of the race, the winners will be awarded medals.
BOSPHORUS WILL BE CLOSED TO SEA TRAFFIC
Due to the Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race, the Bosphorus will be closed to transit ships throughout the event. Between 08:00-13:00, the Long Bosphorus Tour of the City Lines, Parallel to the Shore and Bebek-Emirgan (middle ring) trips will not be made.
HIGH LEVEL COVID MEASURES
The only swimming race from Asia to Europe, which was selected as the “World's Best Open Water Swimming Organization” by the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA), will be held without spectators this year. In the race, the course promotion tours, press conference, show swimming and field events organized in previous years will not be held. The organization will be held by paying attention to the principles of social distance, hygiene and non-contact.
FULL SUPPORT TO ORGANIZATION FROM IMM
IMM, which supports the organization under the coordination of the IMM Youth and Sports Directorate, will allocate Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park to the organization. He will perform the cleaning, maintenance and landscaping of the area. Three ferryboats with hydraulic ramps will be allocated to the athletes in order to provide access and start to Kanlıca, which is the starting point from Cemil Topuzlu Park. In addition, 6 passenger piers used on ferries and 2 bridge piers that provide passage from ship to ship will also be provided by IMM.
İBB will undertake many more tasks before, during and after the race. IMM, which will carry out sea and coastal cleaning at all stages of the event; It will contribute to the organization with many technical tools and equipment such as mobile shower cabins, fire trucks, cranes, zodiac boats, land and sea garbage collection vehicles, sweeping and washing vehicles. The floating dock, which allows swimmers to land comfortably at the finish point, will be installed by IMM.
On the other hand, many IMM personnel will take part in the event. During the event, free parking for athletes and officials, free promotional support in public transport and outdoor advertising channels will also be provided by IMM.
