Automotive Production Increased by 11% and Exports by 7% in the First Seven Months

Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced January-July data. In the first seven months of the year, automotive production increased by 11 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 705 thousand 79 units, while automobile production increased by 2 percent to 449 thousand 550 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 738 thousand 329 units. In the same period, automotive exports increased by 7 percent on the basis of units to 512 thousand 320 units, while automobile exports decreased by 3 percent to 332 thousand 874 units. In the January-July period, the total market increased by 31 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 461 thousand 730 units. During this period, the automobile market increased by 27 percent and reached 346 thousand 636 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 6,4 percent and the automobile market increased by 10 percent in the January-July period. While the heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by about 4 percent, the light commercial vehicle market was in line with the ten-year average and decreased by 2 percent. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the automotive industry, which has a share of 13,5% in total exports in the January-July period, completed the first seven months of the year as the leader.

Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 14 largest members that steer the Turkish automotive industry, has announced the production and export numbers and market data for the January-July period. Accordingly, total automotive production in the seven months of the year increased by 11 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 705 thousand 79 units, while automobile production increased by 2 percent to 449 thousand 550 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production was 738 thousand 329 units. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 62 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 61 percent in light commercial vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 58 percent in heavy commercial vehicles, and 76 percent in tractors.

Commercial vehicle production increased by 30 percent

In the January-July period, commercial vehicle production increased by 30 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, while the production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 56 percent, the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 28 percent. In the first seven months of the year, the total commercial vehicle production was 255 thousand 529 units. Looking at the market, the commercial vehicle market increased by 95 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 40 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 112 percent in the January-July period compared to the same period of the previous year. Despite the increase in the heavy commercial vehicle group compared to the previous year, when the base effect is taken into account, the truck market shrank by 2015 percent and the bus and midibus market by 31 percent compared to 31.

The market is 10 percent above the 6,4-year averages

In the period covering the first seven months of the year, the total market increased by 31 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 461 thousand 730 units. During this period, the automobile market also increased by 27 percent and amounted to 346 thousand 636 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 2021 percent and the automobile market increased by 6,4 percent in the January-July 10 period. While the heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by 4 percent, the light commercial vehicle market was in line with the average of the last ten years. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 40 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 53 percent.

512 thousand units exported in seven months

In the January-July period, automotive exports increased by 27 percent on unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 512 thousand 320 units. Automobile exports, on the other hand, decreased by 3 percent to 322 thousand 874 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the automotive industry exports maintained its first place with a share of 13,5 percent in total exports in the January-July period.

Exports increased by 27 percent in dollar terms and reached 16,7 billion dollars.

In the January-July period, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased by 27 percent in dollar terms and 17 percent in euro terms. In this period, total automotive exports amounted to 16,7 billion dollars, while automobile exports increased by 7 percent to 5,4 billion dollars. On a Euro basis, automobile exports decreased by 1 percent to 4,5 billion Euros. In the first seven months of the year, exports of the main industry increased by 18 percent in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 42 percent.
