The Urban Planning Group Coordinatorship, which includes affiliates of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), KİPTAŞ, İmar AŞ and BİMTAŞ, established the Istanbul Renewal Platform to create earthquake-safe structures. With this platform, IMM receives applications from citizens who want to transform their risky buildings into durable residences. Ali Kurt, General Manager of KİPTAŞ, stated that they received more than 1.5 applications covering the living space of 150 thousand citizens in a 1.600-month period. Kurt said, “We will make an offer to our citizens to renew their risky structures. We will set the terms together. If we come to an agreement, we will evacuate the risk structures and build new ones," he said.
