Türk Telekom's corporate social responsibility project, Telephone Library, provides a more accessible life for the visually impaired with the Medicine Barcode Reading and Money Recognition function, which was implemented for the first time in Turkey.

Turkish telecom; In addition to applications that facilitate the daily lives of the visually impaired, it also carries out projects that allow them to meet with art. In this context, the Paintings Speak Digital Painting Exhibition, which was opened on May 31, 2021 at the Presidential National Library with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife Emine Erdoğan, is also welcoming its visitors.

Türk Telekom, the leader of Turkey's digital transformation, continues its social responsibility projects where technology turns into goodness and benefit with its human-centered approach. The Telephone Library application, which Türk Telekom implemented 10 years ago in this context, has been continuously developed and turned into a technology that provides conveniences for the visually impaired, apart from listening to audiobooks.

Money Recognition and Medicine Barcode Reading feature makes life easier for the visually impaired

The Money Recognition function, which was added to the application in 2017 for the first time in Turkey, allows visually impaired people to make their payments safely whenever they need and without the need for anyone else. Visually impaired user Amine Enner Akay, who stated that the application often makes use of the Money Recognition function, said, "I find this feature very functional, which meets our great needs, even for small accounts such as the payments we make and the money we receive." Focusing on the digitalization of the health sector, Türk Telekom has also broken new ground and launched the Pharma Barcode Reading feature in 2020 in collaboration with RxMediaPharma Interactive Pharmaceutical Information Source. With this feature, the instructions for use of more than 6 thousand drugs were put into service with voice access. Visually impaired Ali Öztürk, who uses the Drug Barcode Reading feature, said, “Before this application, we were getting the help of the brail name tag. But we could not see or understand the side effects of the drug. We were only seeing the name, but with this application, we can learn both the name of the drug and the instructions for use without the need of anyone.”

In this context, the 'Paintings Talk Digital Painting Exhibition' within the scope of Türk Telekom's social responsibility project Telephone Library was opened to visitors with the participation of Emine Erdoğan. Works consisting of audio-descriptive paintings are exhibited at the Presidential National Library, Turkey's largest library.
