Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank participated in the launch test of SORS in Sinop. Noting that they are approaching the Moon mission step by step, Minister Varank announced that they have started the design of the unmanned spacecraft.

hard landing on the moon

Studies on the targets in the National Space Program, announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on February 9, continue uninterruptedly. The most important short-term goal of the program is to make a hard landing on the Moon with a spacecraft using national and original technologies in 2023. Turkish engineers are working day and night for this purpose. All details, including the engines of rockets to be fired in space, are meticulously considered.

Delta V developed

Industry and Technology Minister Varank held talks in Sinop to see the work done with hybrid rocket technologies on site. Minister Varank visited the Sinop Test Center for the launch tests of SORS, developed by Delta V Space Technologies Inc., an affiliate of the Presidency of Defense Industry.

Inspected the test area

During the visit, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Sinop Governor Erol Karaömeroğlu, AK Party Sinop Deputy Nazım Maviş, Turkey Space Agency (TUA) President Serdar Hüseyin Yıldırım, KOSGEB President Hasan Basri Kurt, Delta V General Manager Arif Karabeyoğlu and SSTEK. Ahmet Çağrı Özer, General Manager of Defense Industry Technologies Inc., accompanied him. Varank inspected the test site prior to launch. He received information about the assembly and pre-flight preparation stages of SORS.

Its design started

Making statements later, Varank reminded that one of the goals of the National Space Program is to make a hard landing on the Moon in 2023, "We have now started the design of our spacecraft." said.

Target 100 km limit

Providing information about the tests carried out by DeltaV in Sinop, Varank said, "The ultimate goal here is to be able to cross the space limit, which we call 100 km, with hybrid engine rockets." said.

give history

Explaining that a foreign company (Virgin Galactic) has recently traveled in space using hybrid engines, Varank said, "Here, if we can test this engine, if we can give it a history in space, we will have achieved an important expansion in the field of space with these hybrid engines. Turkey will be one step ahead in this field.” said.

step by step moon

Varank stated that the work carried out for the Moon Mission is progressing successfully, “We are getting closer to the moon step by step. We are getting closer to our goals in the lunar mission.” he spoke

Varank stated that they will accelerate the process of sending the Turkish space man into space, another target in the National Space Program, and stated that they are aware of the interest given to this mission.

High performance advanced technology

Delta V General Manager Karabeyoğlu noted that the SORS, which was ignited, has one of the most advanced technologies used in the world, and said, “We are talking about an engine that burns very quickly and displays high performance, using liquid oxygen and paraffin fuel.” said.

There will be space power

TUA President Yıldırım stated that they have made progress in all 10 targets in the National Space Program and said, “When we come to 2030, Turkey will be one of the 7-8 countries in the world that will take its place as a space power.” he said.

counted down from 10

After the completion of the pre-launch filling process and other preparations of the probe, which uses liquid oxygen as an oxidizer, Minister Varank and his entourage moved to the launch control building. After the final security checks here, it was counted down from 10 and the launch test of SORS was done. The probe rocket launched with the command of Minister Varank successfully passed the test in Sinop.

higher altitude

Delta V's work on increasing the altitude of the rocket continues. SORS will have more oxidizer capacity with its enlarged tank. Thus, the launched rocket will be able to reach altitudes much higher than 100 kilometers. It is aimed that the ground tests of the large oxidizer tank, whose production has been completed, will be carried out in August and will be used for launches in September.

Previous tests were also successful.

The vertical firing test of SORS's propulsion system, which was developed by Delta V and will cross the space limit, and the hybrid rocket engine planned to be used in the "Hard Landing on the Moon" mission, was carried out in April, and the tests were completed with full success.

Testing in space environment

SORS will be an important building block for the Moon Mission, as well as demonstrating Turkey's success and technological competence in hybrid rocket engines. The critical components of the hybrid engine to be used in the Moon Mission will be taken to the space environment and tested with the SORS system, and their suitability for space missions will be confirmed.

Hybrid rockets are greener

Hybrid rocket engines are innovative rocket systems obtained by combining solid fuel and liquid oxidizer, with the advantages of safety, cost and being more environmentally friendly, which are not found in solid or liquid systems.

Next generation launch system

These systems have become demanded in commercial space activities where cost has become a priority, and in new application areas such as space tourism where safety and environmental sensitivity are at the forefront as well as cost. Thanks to hybrid fuel rockets, it will be possible to develop new generation launch systems, upper stage propellant engines and suborbital systems.
