EGİAD Aegean Young Businessmen Association organized a webinar on “Energy Efficiency in Businesses” in order to make suggestions to reduce the expenses of businesses and to save large amounts of energy with simple measures to be taken in our industrial facilities as well as in our homes. In the event, which was held with the participation of Setaş Energy Board Member Gülsüm Nilay Teker, it was stated that the solutions offered provided savings of up to 40 percent in the expenses of the enterprises.

Making the opening speech at the event where the titles of Energy Efficiency and Legislation, Energy Audit, Benefits of Energy Audit, Increasing competitiveness by reducing Energy Costs, Legal Obligations and Regulations were discussed. EGİAD Alp Avni Yelkenbiçer, Chairman of the Board, EGİAD Expressing that they will conduct an energy efficiency research for their members, he said, “In the globalizing world economy, industrial enterprises have to compete with many enterprises not only in their countries but also around the world. In addition to the human, technology and capital resources needed for them to be successful in global competition, the most important resource is energy.

Since the oil crisis in the 1970s, energy efficiency has been on the agenda of world economies. In terms of industrial enterprises, energy efficiency is both an environmental problem and a strategic problem addressed in terms of sustainability, and a current necessity to reduce costs with increasing competition. Increasing and optimizing energy efficiency in industrial enterprises has emerged as an important problem for managers. The methods and tools used for efficient consumption of energy should be well known. It is known that with the solutions offered, savings of up to 40 percent are provided in the expenses of the enterprises.

With this seminar, we will try to guide our companies in the right way by giving place to energy management systems, energy studies and analyzes applied to increase energy efficiency in enterprises. Pointing out that we will fail to leave a livable world to future generations unless the way of production and consumption changes, Yelkenbiçer emphasized that the ecological balance has deteriorated, energy prices have increased, income distribution is damaged, and fossil resources that provide energy are decreasing day by day. It is important to reduce the energy consumption per product without reducing it. The most important factor for efficiency is essentially savings. Considering this way, it is important both to use less energy and to evaluate energy wastes as recycling. When it comes to energy saving, the measures taken by the users come to the fore.

The rate of measures to be taken is directly proportional to the energy consumption percentages of all sectors. In our country, which is still in the development stage, industrialization efforts, orientation to new technology and population growth cause more and more energy to be used. As the increasing need leads to more energy use, the rapid depletion of resources, the deterioration of the environment, and the risk of our country's dependence on foreign energy in terms of energy. Considering sustainability, which is one of our period themes, the importance of this issue becomes even clearer. For these reasons, energy efficiency is a must for sustainable development. Because all kinds of positive or negative developments related to energy affect the human and environmental factor, which is the focal point of sustainable development.

In her speech, Setaş Energy Board Member Gülsüm Nilay Teker emphasized the importance of energy efficiency in economic development and sustainability, and gave information about the implementation of the measures determined by the energy audit study in industrial enterprises and efficiency-enhancing projects and investment supports for energy saving measures. In addition, the effects of energy efficiency and energy audit studies on sustainability and green reconciliation process were also discussed.
