The kits that transform classic bicycles into electric bicycles with a range of up to 45 kilometers with a single charge in a few minutes are designed by the start-up Byqee and produced on Zaxe printers. In Turkey, bicycles, which have started to be used for sports and entertainment purposes as well as transportation, become cheap and environmentally friendly vehicles with the electric transformation. Zaxe General Manager Emre Akıncı said, “It is very important for us to transform bicycles. We produce not only the parts required for driving, but also many necessary accessories, from basket to phone holder, with 3D printers.”

Environmental and economic solutions in transportation are expanding their sphere of influence day by day. At this point, the first choice is for electric bicycles. However, factory-made electric bicycles are not preferred by bicycle enthusiasts due to their standard structures. Those products are recorded on Turkey's export scorecard with an annual volume of 40 million dollars. The first address for those who want to electrify their bicycles is the electric bicycle sets produced by Byqee. Turkey's domestic and national 3D printer manufacturer Zaxe produces these conversion sets in cooperation with Byqee, which produces sets that convert bicycles into electric bicycles in a short time. Many parts, from phone holders used in bicycles to baskets and flasks, are also prepared by Zaxe.

420 thousand classic bicycles are produced every year

Transportation in the world has become more individualized due to the global warming problem due to carbon emissions and the transmission of Covid-19 in crowded areas. The bicycle, which was used for sports and entertainment in Turkey in the past years, has become one of the most preferred means of transportation due to its economic and environmental effects. So much so that bicycle factories started to work overtime in order to meet the demands from consumers. In this environment, a start-up Byqee made a big difference with the kits it offered to consumers, transforming classic bicycles into electric transportation vehicles within minutes. The critical parts required for an electric bicycle that can reach a range of up to 45 kilometers on a single charge have started to be produced by the Zaxe 3D domestic printer. Speaking about Turkey's potential for bicycle production, Zaxe General Manager Emre Akıncı said, "Electric bicycles are the ideal solution to the transportation problem that has arisen in the last days we live in." Providing information about Turkey's bicycle economy, Akıncı said, “The annual bicycle production in our country is around 400-420 thousand units. Bicycle exports in the first 2021 months of 5 increased by 93,6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. 70 percent of the bicycles produced in Turkey goes for export and 30 percent goes for domestic consumption. With the electric conversion kits produced by Byqee with the Zaxe 3D printer, normal bicycles are transformed into an electric transportation vehicle that can travel up to 45 kilometers in a few minutes. Considering that 40 percent of automobile journeys in the world are made for distances of 5 kilometers or less, our work with Byqee makes a significant contribution not only to the economy but also to the environment.

Contributes to the country's economy

Explaining that bicycles have become an environmentally friendly and economical means of transportation that travels for kilometers with the charging starting from 3 hours with the prepared conversion sets, Emre Akıncı said, “We know that 3D printers will change the world. It is very important for us to start a part of this from bicycles. Combining the forces of Zaxe, a local company, and Byqee, a start-up from our country, will meet an important need in Turkey, where traffic and transportation problems are experienced in almost every major city, especially in Istanbul. There is already a great interest in Byqee's conversion kits from consumers. It is doubtful that the need and passion for bicycle transportation, which started with Covid-19, has a great share in this. Turkey will gain great momentum in the transformation of classical bicycles into electric bicycles and we believe that most of the classical bicycles will turn into electric bicycles in the near future. We will not only transform the bicycles in our country, but also export these products together with ready-made sets and make a significant contribution to the country's economy. We will develop the country's economy by providing figures as important as bicycle exports, which reached 2021 million dollars in the first 5 months of 55," he said.

Many accessories are produced

Explaining that 3D printers work day and night not only for the electric conversion of bicycles but also for the accessories needed for bicycles, Emre Akıncı gave the following information:

“Our work did not only create a conversion set with Byqee. In addition, we made the bike more comfortable and pleasant thanks to the bicycle accessories we printed with Zaxe 3D printers. We printed bike accessories using the Zaxe Z1 printer. We got these designs from the sites called thingiverse.com and myminifactory.com, where there are already existing models. We also implemented parts such as phone and bottle holder, rim ornament and basket. We produced 20 rim ornaments as 4 in 6 hours and 25 minutes. “We printed the rim ornaments with Zaxe ABS green, Zaxe ABS yellow and Zaxe ABS red filaments. We also produced phone and bottle holders using Zaxe ABS black filament with our Zaxe Z1 printer. The printing time of the phone holder, which consists of 6 parts, took 4 hours and 54 minutes, and the printing time of the bottle holder took 5 and a half hours. We printed the parts of the basket on the front of the bike in 35 hours in total. Then we combined it and made it usable after retouching. We used Zaxe ABS White and Zaxe ABS Blue as filaments.”
