A “Communication Center for the Hearing Impaired” will be opened under the Ministry of Family and Social Services in order for hearing impaired citizens to benefit from interpreting services in the areas they need.
According to the data of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Center for Unhindered Access, Population and Housing Research, there are 836 thousand people who are deaf and hard of hearing, and the ratio of this to the total population is stated as 1,1 percent.
According to the National Disability Data System, the number of hearing-impaired people registered and alive in the system is 228 thousand 589.
The “Communication Center for the Hearing Impaired (FAMILY)”, which will be the first in this field in Turkey, will provide services throughout the country and in the TRNC for all hearing-impaired citizens to benefit from the translation services they need in their interactions with public institutions and organizations, other institutions and individuals, and in their daily lives.
Hearing-impaired citizens who apply to the center from all provinces, districts, villages and towns, prefer Turkish sign language as the communication language, and those who want to communicate with these citizens will be able to receive service from the community call center.
With the call center to be established by the Ministry, communication needs of all hearing-impaired citizens will be met independently of their families and close circles in areas outside the scope of other call centers.
The call center to be established by the Ministry will cover communication needs that may arise in other areas of life such as notary public, courthouse, security, education, transportation, goods and services.
In this context, for example, a hearing-impaired parent will be able to get support from the call center when they want to communicate with their child's teacher or when the teacher wants to communicate with a hearing-impaired parent.
When hearing impaired citizens want to order food, they will be able to receive support from this center 7 hours a day, 24 days a week.
“10 Turkish sign language interpreters will be employed”
A Turkish sign language interpreter will be recruited for the Hearing Impaired Communication Center of the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
10 Turkish sign language interpreters will be employed to be assigned to the Ministry of Family and Social Services Barrier-Free Access Center to be opened in Ankara under the Ministry.
Applications will continue until July 5th. Persons who fill out the required form can submit their applications personally to the Ministry of Family and Social Services or to the address “engelliyasli.sehkd@ailevecalisma.gov.tr”.
Applicants whose applications are approved will be interviewed at the Ministry building on 8 July.
