Izmir Metropolitan Municipality July ordinary council meeting, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer made under his management. Minister Tunç Soyer He said that they will conduct investigations from the place where the river originates to the place where it flows into the Izmir Bay in order to determine the source of the pollution in the Gediz River flowing into the Gulf. Soyer continued:

“We say that the Gulf is poisoned, polluted. Since rain water and sewage channels were not separated in the past, there were many deficiencies, many mistakes were made, but if the calamity called mucilage does not appear in Izmir Bay, the Grand Canal Project, which was built 20-25 years ago, has a share in this. Where is the Gulf still being poisoned? From Gediz… There are friends who are angry that I am going out of the city, yes, I am going to Kütahya. I will drink water from the top of Murat Mountain, from the place where Gediz was born. After that, I will travel with my bureaucrat friends to the point where Gediz empties into the sea. Is this my job? Am I the Minister of Environment and Urbanization? No, but my conscience is not willing to watch this. If that poison continues to flow, I will work with the municipalities and bureaucrats of Kütahya, Uşak, Manisa. I will present something to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Maybe I'll offer solutions that they missed or weren't aware of. Shouldn't we? Gediz, Ergene is poisoned. These incoming disasters are not the problem of the last 3-5 years. It is the result of the wrong policies implemented for years,” he said.

I have to make a cure

Expressing that he witnessed the drying up of the lakes during his visits in Burdur, the President Tunç Soyer“Do not rejoice when it rains. The drought will not end. The result of years of wrong policies, combined with climate change, and we are under a great threat today. You don't have to be the Minister of Agriculture for this. It is not my duty, the Ministry of Agriculture. But as an elected local administrator I have to look for a solution to this. He will come to our Izmir tomorrow, he has. Friends cannot draw water at 300 meters in Kiraz. Drought is at our doorstep and I, as an elected local administrator, have to find a solution to it with my fellow councillors.”

I do politics so that corruption and poverty do not exist.

Stating that they will fight against poverty and corruption, Soyer said, “The responsibility of this country and city is on us. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is the largest elected body of Izmir, its institutional capacity. We have to feel this responsibility on our shoulders. That's why I do politics. Corruption, poverty, so that they do not exist in these lands. I will also fight anyone who causes this, ignores it. That's my only concern. The people of this land deserve better. We have only one line, thieves and thieves. As we know that the beautiful people of this country deserve better things, we will find solutions together. By continuing to fight against poverty and corruption," he said.
