Questions About Third Dose Vaccination

In the fight against Covid-19, the third dose of vaccine application started as of July. Underlining that the vaccine is very important in order to get rid of the pandemic as soon as possible and to return to our normal life, Anadolu Health Center Infectious Diseases Specialist Assoc. Dr. Elif Hakko said, “It is much more logical to experience some temporary side effects of the vaccine rather than catching COVID-3. After vaccination, you can continue your life from where you left off. When mild side effects are encountered, one should not be alarmed and rest. Protection begins 19 weeks after 2 doses of vaccine are completed. In this process, it is necessary to continue to follow the rules by thinking as if there has never been a vaccine.

• Those who have had 2 doses of Coronavac (Sinovac) can get the Biontech vaccine as a third dose.
• Those who have had COVID-19 can also get a single dose of the Biontech vaccine.
• Those who have 2 doses of Biontech vaccine do not need to have a third dose of vaccine.
• After 12 weeks, all pregnant women, nursing mothers and those planning a pregnancy can get the Biontech vaccine.
• Those who have had the Sinovac vaccine before may be slightly more likely to experience side effects.
• Painkillers containing paracetamol can be used for side effects such as pain, fever, muscle aches and headaches.
• There is no need to take blood thinners before or after.
• Chronic diseases such as COPD, diabetes, asthma or the use of drugs are not an obstacle for vaccination.
• Being allergic, having a penicillin allergy is not an obstacle for vaccination.
• Those who have the Coronavac (Sinovac) vaccine should wait at least 1 month to get the Biontech vaccine.
• Those who use blood thinners should inform their doctor before getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

Underlining that there is nothing that needs to be done before the vaccination, but there are some issues that need attention, Assoc. Dr. Elif Hakko said, “As you should be careful in cases where you need to be injected or vaccinated, it is useful to tell your doctor if you are using blood thinners before you have the COVID-19 vaccine. In order to prevent extra bleeding due to the injection, your doctor will review your medications and tell you the precautions to be taken.

If symptoms worsen 24 hours after vaccination, a doctor should be consulted.

Stating that after vaccination, mild swelling and pain can be seen in the arm, especially in the vaccinated area, Assoc. Dr. Elif Hakko said, “However, the pain is caused by the needle, not the ingredients in the vaccine, and it usually goes away within a day. And also; Symptoms such as headache, weakness, fatigue, muscle aches and mild fever are also seen. If the side effects continue 24 hours after the vaccine, do not neglect to consult your doctor.

Drink plenty of water after vaccination

Suggesting that plenty of fluids, especially water, should be consumed against fever after vaccination, Assoc. Dr. Elif Hakko said, “Do not dress thickly. Choose clothes that do not tighten and do not sweat. Place a clean, cold, wet washcloth on the aching area on the arm. Our recommendation for the aching arm is that your arm does not remain motionless. Use your arm, even do arm exercises,” he said.
