For more efficient use of water, a meter system is being introduced in İzmir Kiraz Haliler and Çatak Ponds irrigation fields. 5090 prepaid card meters will be installed on a total area of 89 decares, reducing the irrigation costs of the producer and saving water.

Stating that the project will be completed this season, DSI 2nd Regional Manager Birol Çınar said, "Every drop of water is valuable."

DSI 2nd Regional Directorate started an exemplary project in the irrigation fields of Kiraz Haliler and Çatak Ponds for the effective use of water, which gains more importance every year due to global warming and excessive consumption.

Within the scope of "İzmir Province Kiraz District Haliler and Çatak Pond Irrigation Mechanical Equipment Material Purchase and Installation Project", 5090 prepaid card counter systems will be installed on a total of 89 decares of land. Thus, in Kiraz, water will be saved and the producer will pay as much as he consumes.

To be completed this year

Stating that they want to complete the project this year, DSI 2nd Regional Manager Birol Çınar said, “The importance of water is felt more and more all over the world every year. As a country, we have to use the resources we have in the most beneficial way and bring water to the fields with modern methods. We are switching to the prepaid meter system in Kiraz, which we started with the special instruction of our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli under the auspices of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Good luck to the regional producer," he said.

89 valves (Prepaid Card Counter) will be installed

Explaining that 2880 decares of land will benefit from the project in the Haliler Pond Irrigation Field and 2110 decares in the Çatak Pond Irrigation Field, DSİ 2nd Regional Manager Çınar said that the irrigation costs in the region will decrease. Çınar said, “We will install 87 DN80 valves and 2 DN100 valves in total, 89 valves in Kiraz. Factory acceptance of the valves has been made. The assembly process has begun. After the valves are used effectively, we will be able to instantly monitor the water used from the Haliler and Çatak Ponds. Leakage rate will decrease. The producer will more easily track the amount of water used and avoid waste. Thus, our farmers will not only pay for the water they use, but also save water. Let's not forget that every drop of water is valuable.
