Vice President Fuat Oktay attended the Ankara-Sivas High Speed Train test drive with the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu and made an examination at Sorgun station. Deputy President Oktay and Minister Karaismailoğlu were accompanied by MPs, TCDD General Manager Ali İhsan Uygun, TCDD Deputy General Manager Öner Özgür, Railway Construction Department Head Suat Güllü, TCDD Transportation Deputy General Manager Şinasi Kazancıoğlu and gave information about the works.
Vice President Fuat Oktay said, “Despite the pandemic period, Turkey continues on its way without slowing down with all kinds of infrastructure works, investments and all kinds of efforts. That's why we came to Sorgun today by high speed train with the energy we received.” said.
Expressing that the test drives of the high-speed train, whose investments have been ongoing for a very long time, have been going on since January 25, Oktay said, “Today, we have done that test drive together with our Minister. We did the test drive together, in which we achieved a comfortable, extremely comfortable, extremely fast, comfortable way to go from here to Ankara in a very comfortable way to meet all your needs whenever you want. It will start its voyages when the certification studies are completed. At the first stage, the section after Baliseyh will be at full capacity, and the Ankara, Yozgat and Sivas line will start operating at full capacity within the next year.” he said.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu also emphasized that railways have economic and strategic importance in his statement to journalists.
Pointing out that the railway is safe and comfortable, Karaismailoğlu stated that significant investments have been made in this area for the last 19 years.
“We are a country that dominates the Iron Silk Road stretching from China to Europe.” Karaismailoğlu, who made his evaluation, stated that a national mobilization was declared to ensure the more widespread use of railways in freight and human transportation.
Karaismailoğlu noted that a 1,213-kilometer high-speed train line was built and the conventional line length was increased to 11 thousand 590 kilometers.
Pointing out that all lines have been rehabilitated, Karaismailoğlu said, “We have increased our total railway network to 12 kilometers. We ranked 803th in the world and 8th in Europe in terms of high-speed train operation. In 6, we took this work to the next level and started the railway reform. In 2020, we aimed to increase the railway investments to 2023 percent and the railway network to 60 kilometers. We strive to produce domestic and national technologies for railway modernization. This infrastructure will be one of our biggest pillars as Turkey moves towards becoming one of the largest economies in the world under the leadership of our President.
Karaismailoğlu emphasized that the travel time between Ankara and Sivas will decrease from 12 hours to 4 hours at the first stage and then to 2 hours after the completion of the project.
