• 1920 – Belgian and French companies were operating the coal mines opened in 1848 in the Zonguldak basin. After the First World War, in 1919, French soldiers occupied Zonguldak and then Karadeniz Ereğli under the pretext of protecting the rights of their companies. However, they were endangered by the opposition of the forces affiliated to the Defense of Rights Associations in and around Zonguldak, and they left the region on 21 June 1920.
