Hasan Pezük, General Manager of TCDD Transportation, visited the Iskenderun Iron and Steel Factory (ISDEMIR). In Pezuk, we successfully transported 2020 million tons of iron ore across Turkey in 7,2. We delivered 810 thousand tons of iron and steel products, which are the production of our iron and steel factories, to the country and abroad. In the first six months of this year, we transported 29 million tons of iron ore, an increase of 3,8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Again in this period, we transported 54 thousand tons of iron and steel products with an increase of 615 percent.

Having met with the accompanying delegation and İSDEMİR officials, Pezük reminded that İSDEMİR has an ongoing cooperation with the railways for 50 years and stated that this has made significant contributions to the country's industry and exports.

With the Logistics Service Provided by the Railways, Both Our Industrialists and Our Country Are Profitable

Emphasizing that they support the industry by saving transportation costs and time, while delivering the ore directly loaded from the mine site to the center of the factory, and the finished and semi-finished iron and steel products produced here to many destinations, Pezük continued his speech as follows:

“Both our industrialists and our country gain with the economical and safe logistics service provided by the railway. Almost all of the iron ore that Iskenderun Iron and Steel Factory needs and procured from within the country is transported by rail. Annually, approximately 3 million tons of iron ore from ore production fields such as Malatya Hekimhan, Demirdağ, Divriği, Çetinkaya, Yeşilhisar, Suveren, Kemaliye Çaltı is transported to the İSDEMİR junction line by TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ. Iron and steel products produced in İSDEMİR are transported to many points in the country by rail.”

Continuity of Trade Provided in Pandemic Conditions

Noting that the raw material needs and productions of many industrial establishments are directly transported through junction lines, Pezük emphasized that the amount of freight transported from these lines increases day by day.

Expressing that as the General Directorate of TCDD Transportation, they are very proud and happy to ensure the continuity of trade under pandemic conditions, Pezük gave the following information:

“In this context, we successfully transported 2020 million tons of iron ore across Turkey in 7,2. In 2020, we broke all-time transportation records while transporting a total of 29,9 million tons of cargo. In the first five months of 2021, our transports are increasing gradually. We transported 2020 million tons of cargo in 11,9 from the junction lines, which connect our industry with the main railway network and transport the cargo to the door of our factories and production centers. Thus, approximately 40 percent of these transports were made from junction lines.”

Underlining that the share of investment in the railway sector is increasing under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Pezuk stated that among these investments, it is aimed to increase the junction lines in particular.

Pezuk noted that railway transportation, which is seen as the transportation system of the 21st century, activates the strategic potential of the country.

Sabri Kılıç, Deputy General Manager of ISDEMIR Enterprises, expressed his satisfaction with the visit and presented a plaque to Pezuk in memory of the visit.
