Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said, “In a short time, we renewed the electronic infrastructure of our Main Search and Rescue and Coordination Center. We have created a faster and more effective working system. On the basis of working 7 hours a day, 24 days a week, we serve Turkish maritime and Turkish aviation not only in the Turkish search and rescue region, but also in every part of the world.”
Karaismailoğlu opened the renewed version of the Main Search and Rescue and Coordination Center. Minister Karaismailoğlu, who stated that they approached maritime navigation safety more sensitively due to the increase in cargo and ship traffic, said, “In a short time, we renewed the electronic infrastructure of our Main Search and Rescue and Coordination Center. Thus, we ensured that he was in charge of all operations in emergency situations. We have redesigned our working environment in order to coordinate with other institutions and organizations.
Emphasizing that they provide services to search and rescue efforts in every part of the world, except for search and rescue zones in Turkey, Minister Karaismailoğlu met with Erhan Yıldırım, the captain of the international ship Ulusoy-12, which departed from Argentina's Necochea port and went to China's Zhangzhou port from the Main Search and Rescue and Coordination Center. established a connection.
“10 lives have been saved in the last 20 years”
Reminding that they published the Search and Rescue Regulation in Marine and Aircraft Accidents on October 17, 2020, Minister Karaismailoğlu underlined that they minimized the bureaucratic processes in search and rescue efforts with the Regulation. Stating that they have expanded their search and rescue efforts in accordance with the Turkish Exclusive Economic Zone and the Blue Homeland doctrine, Karaismailoğlu said, “We are in a position to include public institutions and organizations as well as voluntary organizations in the process and put the fastest solutions into action for the safety of our seafarers. In the last 10 years, 13 lives were saved in 2 sea accidents, 330 of which were in international waters, and we saved 19 lives in 607 air accidents in the last five years. Although all these numbers seem like statistical data, of the nearly 38 thousand lives saved; We are talking about mother, father and child,” he said.
“Turkey is one of the 6 countries with a satellite-assisted search and rescue system”
Pointing out that digitalization has strengthened Turkey's competitive structure in all areas, Minister Karaismailoğlu pointed out that satellite-assisted search and rescue systems have been continuing uninterruptedly since 2005, and said:
“We are one of the first 6 countries in the world, together with America, Canada, France, England and Brazil, which installed the MEOSAR system, which is the advanced generation of the Sarsat system and used by mid-altitude navigation satellites. Our center, which works with the help of satellites and has the supreme responsibility of 'saving lives', also supports Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Georgia and Ukraine in their search and rescue activities in their jurisdictions. Our center continues to stand by our sailors and aviators wherever they are in the world.”
