Özgür Soy, General Manager of Metro Istanbul, one of the subsidiaries of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), met with Zaur Hüseyinov, President of Baku Metro, and Vüsal Aslanov, Vice President of Azerbaijan Railways, in two separate meetings in Baku. Important cooperation decisions were taken to benefit from the management experience of Metro Istanbul for the rail system projects to be carried out in Baku.

Turkey's largest urban rail system operator, Metro Istanbul, has recently carried its domestic cooperation visits abroad as well. Özgür Soy, General Manager of Metro Istanbul, met in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with Zaur Hüseyinov, President of Baku Metro, and Vüsal Aslanov, Vice President of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY QSC), and held important meetings in two separate meetings.

“We want to carry the service we provide to 16 million Istanbulites to Baku”

Within the scope of the meeting held in Baku with the President of Baku Metro, Zaur Hüseyinov, a technical inspection visit was made to the metro stations, the Metro Academy and the Warehouse Workshop Area, and it was decided to sign a cooperation agreement on education and technology sharing between the Baku Metro and Metro Istanbul.

Noting that the talks were fruitful for both sides, General Manager Özgür Soy said, “The people of Azerbaijan are our brother people. With our technology, experience and knowledge on rail systems, we would like to carry the service we provide to 16 million Istanbulites to Baku. The officials we met in Baku also stated that they want to benefit from our management experience. Together with the President of Baku Metro and his deputies, we made a study tour. There is a great need to renew the aging signal system on existing lines in Baku. As the metro operator, we have a wide variety of rail system technologies experience due to the different technologies we use on our lines. In addition to dominating rail system technologies as an operator, we also produce our own technology together with our R&D team. In this sense, we will conduct feasibility studies for the establishment of the signaling system we developed in Baku.”

“We will conduct a feasibility study on business”

General Manager Soy, who also met with Vice President of Azerbaijan Railways Vüsal Aslanov in Baku, said, “We had a very productive meeting. They asked us to do a feasibility study on the operation of passenger lines. We are still negotiating on cooperation in ongoing and planned works, especially in electromechanical projects.”

Özgür Soy informed that the Baku delegation will come to Turkey and visit Metro Istanbul in the coming months.
