Contracted beekeeping will be carried out with bee producers participating in the theoretical and practical courses that will continue until 28 July at the “Beekeeping Academy”. With the trainings given by experts, it is also aimed to brand Capital Honey.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality added a new one to its rural development moves in order to introduce the agricultural values of the Capital to the world.
The Rural Services Department established the “Beekeeping Academy” in Başkent to refresh the knowledge of bee producers and to deliver healthy and quality honey to consumers. Classes have started at the Apiculture Academy, which was established with the cooperation of Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Ankara Beekeepers' Association.
Training will continue until July 28.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality opened the Beekeeping Academy to eliminate the problems experienced by beekeepers regarding production and marketing and to lay the foundations of contracted beekeeping in the Capital City, and classes will continue until 28 July.
In addition to contributing to the development and promotion of the beekeeping profession in Başkent with beekeeping education, it is also aimed to increase the production of high value-added products such as royal jelly, pollen and propolis together with Başkent Honey.
Branding of capital honey will be paved, contracted beekeeping will begin
Emphasizing that they took the step of branding Capital Honey with the Apiculture Academy, Metropolitan Municipality Rural Services Department Head Ahmet Mekin Tüzün shared the following information about the theoretical and practical beekeeping training:
“Our training programs will last 2 days, 1 day theoretical and 1 day practical, and will be implemented in 5 coordination centers that we have chosen. We will continue the training we started in Beypazarı in the apiary that we have established in the practice farm of Ankara University Veterinary Faculty in Kahramankazan district. We started our work with the Beekeepers' Association and Ankara University Veterinary Faculty in order to eliminate the problems experienced by beekeepers regarding marketing and to deliver healthy honey. The products obtained will be sold in the markets after they are subjected to laboratory analysis.”
Tüzün also stated that they are in preparation of a protocol with a university and announced that they will start studies on the treatment method with bee products called apitherapy in traditional and complementary medicine.
Expressing that Turkey is a country with a wide variety of vegetation and has very suitable lands for beekeeping, Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Dean Prof.Dr. Ender Yarsan also made the following evaluations:
“We signed a protocol with the Metropolitan Municipality and the Turkish Beekeepers' Association. The education process first started in Beypazarı. We will continue this training in other districts from now on. We have also created a bee unit in our practice farm, and we will continue our work there.”
Ankara Beekeepers' Association President Selçuk Solmaz, who attended the first of his theoretical training, drew attention to the importance of beekeeping education in the capital with the following words:
“Ankara beekeepers needed serious training. Our beekeepers will focus on production from now on. They had hesitations about how to sell the products they had previously produced. Our market problem is also solved. Most importantly, we were having problems with how to provide inputs. I would like to thank Mr. Mansur Yavaş. This study will provide the following to our city. Beekeepers will not only produce honey. Pollination will increase more and it will become greener in Ankara. With this joint protocol, the producer, the farmer, the city and our country will both win.”
Bee producers show great interest in training
Bee producers show great interest in the theoretical and practical training provided in Beypazarı, accompanied by expert trainers.
Bee Life and Biology, Colony Care and Management, Queen Bee Production, Queen Bee Production Planning, Bee Products Production training is given practically, while Contracted Beekeeping Project and Contracted Beekeeping Implementation Planning training in Ankara are given theoretically. Agricultural Engineer Alim Tutar, who gave the applied and theoretical training in Beypazarı, said, "Our aim is to enable our beekeepers to do their jobs more professionally."
Bee producers participating in the training project initiated by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality to increase rural development explained that they both reinforced their knowledge and learned new information:

It is a good practice to inform beekeepers because they do not know where to send their products, how to evaluate them and how to sell them. Fair Fatih Caglar: “I am an Agricultural Engineer, I have been beekeeping for 3 years. Ankara Honey is very delicious and valuable, but it did not receive the necessary attention because it was not branded. I would like to thank Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who provided such training for the branding of Ankara Honey.
Metin Eroglu: “I have been beekeeping in Ankara for 20 years. Today we added new information to the information we knew before and it was very useful for us.”
