The foundation of the Karapınar Solar Power Plant Site (YEKA GES-1) SCADA Center was laid with the participation of Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez and Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum. The power plant, which will start operating at full capacity by the end of 2022, will be one of the 5 largest power plants in the world.

In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Varank pointed out that the center will be the “brain” of the Karapınar Solar Power Plant and said, “While getting its energy from the sun with panels in a huge barren area, on the other hand, all this technology will be followed and interventions will be made in this center. With a data-based control and monitoring approach, there will be a structure that dominates all systems from equipment control to production planning, from environmental control units to auxiliary businesses. This place will also assume the role of a technology center with the equipment it has.” he said.

Noting that they continue to raise the country's position in the world every year with their large-scale investments, Varank said, "We continue to support the sector in renewable energy in coordination with our other ministries and add strength to their power. While we provide important exemptions to increase investor appetite, we also provide serious support for infrastructure installation. In the field of renewable energy, we have supported 13 enterprises to establish R&D and design centers so far. We transferred 229 million liras to renewable energy projects through our development agencies. TÜBİTAK has created a budget of 930 million TL for 710 projects within the scope of renewable energy technologies. We continue to carry out R&D projects that support the sector in public institutions research centers.” said.

Emphasizing that the holistic perspective, integrated planning and high-tech output concept of the Kalyon YEKA SPP Project is one of the most magnificent examples in the world, Varank said, “Last year, together with our President, we opened the cell and solar panel factory of Kalyon Holding, which cost 400 million dollars. That factory also produces the solar panels used in this integrated project, it is a supplier here. The installation of the panel with a total power of 227 megawatts has been completed so far, that is, electricity generation has started here. The rest will hopefully be completed by the end of 2022. In this way, Karapınar SPP will become one of the power plants highlighted in the world.” he said.

Noting that the power plant is one of the rare power plants that can be seen from space, Varank stated that they will take pictures of the power plant from space with Göktürk and İMECE satellites. Expressing that they want Turkey to become an important player with the SPP projects and the technology production behind these projects, Varank said, “With the additional investments that will be put into use in the coming months, the solar panel factory in Ankara will supply solar panels not only here, but also to Turkey and start exporting. we want." said.

Explaining that they have started a production mobilization in every field all over Turkey, Varank said, “New facilities and new investments are coming into play for the future of Turkey in our organized industrial zones and industrial zones where we have high-tech production bases. We open doors to mega investments such as Karapınar SPP at every opportunity. This facility winks at the clean energy revolution with its massive solar power plant and modern SCADA centre. This place gets its energy from the sun, and we get our energy from serving our nation. In the light of the National Technology Move under the leadership of our President, our approach focused on investment, production, employment and export does not slow down, we continue to run.” used the phrases.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, underlined that the installation of Karapınar SPP has been completed by 20 percent and has started to generate electricity, and said, “Europe's first and only integrated solar panel factory, Karapınar SPP, meets the panel need with domestic resources. The facility, with an investment amount of 400 million dollars, has an annual solar panel production capacity of 500 megawatts. The domesticity rate of the panels produced in the facility, which will prevent the import of panels of approximately 100 million dollars every year with the production it will realize, is over 70 percent. With Karapınar SPP, Integrated Solar Panel Factory and R&D facility, which is one of the best examples of the steps we have taken by saying Turkey as the center country in energy technologies, we put the stamp of "Made In Turkey" on renewable energy with domestic technology.” he said.

Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum said that Turkey's renewable energy investments are of vital importance as climate-friendly investments in terms of reducing the use of fossil fuels. Stating that as the Ministry, they support all climate-friendly energy investments, the Authority said, “We immediately allocated this 27 million square meter area to our Ministry of Industry and Technology. Today, the panel installation of the 267 million square meter PHASE-I section of our facility with a panel power of 4 megawatts has been completed. Hopefully, Karapınar SPP will be commissioned at full capacity by the end of 2022. Here, an area of 20 million square meters, the size of 2 football fields, will be equipped with solar panels. The use of 600 million tons of fossil fuels every year will also be prevented.” said.

Kalyon Holding Chairman of the Board of Directors, Cemal Kalyoncu, stated that they will complete an investment of 19 billion dollars in the energy sector by the end of 2022, despite the conditions of the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-1,4) epidemic.

The ceremony was attended by AK Party Konya Deputy and Chairman of the Parliamentary Industry, Commerce, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Commission Ziya Altunyaldız, AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş, AK Party Konya MPs Ahmet Sorgun, Orhan Erdem, AK Party Deputy Chairman Leyla Şahin Usta. , Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) President Mustafa Yılmaz, Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan, Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay and company officials.
