The sign language training given by the EGO General Directorate to the drivers using public transportation vehicles and security personnel working in Rail Systems within the scope of the “I am Learning Sign Language Project” in cooperation with the Ankara City Council continues. A total of 3 thousand 3 drivers and security personnel will have learned sign language in the trainings started on “March 918, World Ear and Hearing Day”.
The trainings initiated within the scope of the "I'm Learning Sign Language Project" prepared in cooperation with the EGO General Directorate and Ankara City Council continue without slowing down.
With the "Sign Language Training" launched on "March 3, World Ear and Hearing Day", drivers using public transportation vehicles and security personnel working in rail systems learn sign language.
3 PUBLIC TRANSPORT DRIVERS AND SECURITY PERSONNEL WILL RECEIVE TRAINING
A total of 2 thousand, including 532 thousand 200 personnel working in the EGO Bus Operations Department, 400 personnel in Private Public Buses (ÖHO), 786 transportation personnel in Private Public Transportation Vehicles (ÖTA), and 3 personnel working in the Transportation Planning and Rail System Department. Sign language training to be given to 918 drivers and security personnel will last for 5 months.
Materials and posters prepared at the end of the trainings carried out on zoom, accompanied by expert trainers, will be hung on metro stations and public transportation vehicles. In order for citizens to learn, educational videos will be broadcast on the screens of public transportation vehicles.
LIFE OF DISABLED CITIZENS WILL BE EASIER
Stating that as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, they started sign language training to facilitate the life of disabled citizens, EGO General Directorate Service Improvement Branch Manager Mehmet Buzlu gave the following information:
“One step of the Sign Language Awareness Project, which was initiated in cooperation with the EGO General Directorate and Ankara City Council, is the 'I'm Learning Sign Language' training. Within the scope of these trainings, we are planning to provide training to our drivers within the EGO General Directorate, our security personnel working in the subways and our personnel working in the Public Relations counters. Due to the pandemic period, we are doing our training through zoom. The infrastructure of the education is provided by the Union of Municipalities of Turkey Municipal Academy. We plan to complete the trainings that we started in March at the end of July.”

Evren Barışık, one of the hearing-impaired citizens, stated that the drivers using public transportation vehicles in Ankara and the personnel working in the rail systems will take sign language training and said, “I attended the sign language training given to EGO drivers and I am very pleased that they learned sign language. I would like to thank EGO General Directorate and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş for making the lives of hearing-impaired citizens easier.”
Expressing that he has been a bus driver at EGO General Directorate for 1 year, Murat Eminoğlu emphasized that the training they received was beneficial and shared his thoughts with the following words:
“Before sign language training was given, we had great difficulties when we encountered hearing-impaired citizens. After we start taking the trainings, we can communicate easily. We are very happy when we communicate. We think that everyone should take this training and learn sign language.”
