The State Theaters-Sabancı International Adana Theater Festival, organized in cooperation with the Sabancı Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism State Theaters, met with theater lovers for the 14nd time in Adana between 21 – 2021 June 22.

Although tickets were sold to a limited number of spectators this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival attracted great attention. The International Adana Theater Festival, the longest running theater festival in Turkey, hosted 9 thousand spectators this year. For 22 years, 45 foreign theater groups from 117 different countries and more than 6 thousand local and foreign artists participated; To date, 414 plays and more than a thousand performances have been organized, including the plays staged by city theaters, private theaters and State Theaters from Turkey. The plays staged at the Adana Theater Festival, which was followed with interest by spectators from many parts of Turkey, reached more than 1 million spectators.

The festival, which started with Theater Kare's emotional comedy “Trees Die Standing”, closed with Istanbul State Theater's play “Karmakarışık”. The award was presented to master actress Nevra Serezli, the owner of the "Sakıp Sabancı Lifetime Achievement Award", which has been given since 2005 to show gratitude and respect to the masters who have made significant contributions to the development of theater art, on the stage before the play.

18 plays met the audience

Adana Theater Festival hosted a total of 9 different plays this year with the participation of 7 state theaters and 18 private theaters from many cities of Turkey.

This year, "Trees Die Standing" by Theater Kare, "Anna Karenina" by Ankara State Theater, "I Can't Kill Myself" by Sivas State Theater, "Our Love Is Aksaray's Biggest Fire" by Theater Kedi, Semaver Kumpanya “Cardenio”, Bursa State Theater's "Akide Candy", İzmir State Theater's "Under the Stars", Istanbul State Theater's "Around the World in Eighty Days" and "Karmakarışık" plays were staged in Merkez Park.

DOT Theater's "Picture of Sound", Kumbaracı 50's "Mystery", Ankara State Theater's "Infinity Bookstore", Van State Theater's "Horses in the Window", Kuzgun Production's "Tuna Curl", Diyarbakır State Theatre. The plays “Madonna in a Fur Coat” by Sadri Alışık Theater and “Dali's Women” by the Sadri Alışık Theater, and “Mr. Z” and “Children's Play” by the Istanbul State Theater were staged at the Hacı Ömer Sabancı Cultural Center.
