It was decided to continue the feasibility studies for the Kars-Nahçıvan Railway Project. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu gave information about the economic contribution of the project for Azerbaijan and Turkey and the ongoing works.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made statements about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, the construction of the railway between Iğdır and Nakhchivan, the Canal Istanbul Project and the reconstruction of Karabakh. In the statement, it was stated that “Decisions were taken to continue the feasibility studies regarding the Kars-Nahçıvan Railway Project and to start studies for the opening of the BTK railway line to domestic and foreign tourism”.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said, “We have completed our revised survey project regarding the Kars-Iğdır-Aralık-Dilucu Railway Project, which is the section of the railway line between Iğdır-Nahcıvan within the borders of Turkey, at the end of 2020.

The transportation will take place at a speed of 224 kilometers per hour on this railway line designed with 6 stations and a length of 160 kilometers with double track and electrical signalization.

This project, together with the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku Railway, which was completed as a single line, and the Kars Logistics Center, which is under construction, is a line that will complete the Middle Corridor.

With the completion of the project, there will be a significant flow of cargo from China, India, Pakistan and Iran to Europe and our ports.” said.

Karaismailoğlu said, “On the east-west corridor (Kapıkule-Edirne-Istanbul-Eskişehir-Ankara-Yozgat-Sivas-Erzincan-Erzurum-Kars), which is the main backbone of our country; Making Iran and Nakhchivan connections will also increase the logistical importance of our country.

The feasibility of the Sivas-Erzincan-Erzurum-Kars Railway Project will also be positively affected by providing a railway connection to Iğdır, which is an important agricultural region.” continued his words.

“EIA REPORT ACCEPTED IN NOVEMBER”

Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “On February 25, 2020, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey for the study of the project and the preparation of the feasibility report.

The project, which has a construction cost of approximately 1,2 billion dollars, will be tendered if it is included in the 2021 Investment Program. It is envisaged that the line starting from Kars will pass through Iğdır and continue until Araklı and Dilucu Border Gate.

There is no railway connection on the 7-kilometer line from Dilucu Border Gate to Nakhcivan's Sederek Region.

The conditions under which this connection will be made and by which party will become clear with the agreement to be reached. There are sections in need of rehabilitation in the railway connection from Sederek Region to Azerbaijan.” completed in the form.
