IMM continues to fight against mucilage, which threatens the bottom and top of the Marmara Sea, using all its means. IMM, which disposed of 20 thousand 2 cubic meters of mucilage in 516 days, commissioned all its vehicles from sea surface cleaning boats to dredging and dump vessels. However, over time, when it was determined that cleaning from the land with vacuum trucks was more efficient, the dump and dredge vessels that did not have the ability to clean the sea surface were taken into the background. In addition to the sea surface cleaning boats, 13 percent of the total mucilage was removed in the study carried out with 45 shore cleaning crews. On the other hand, İSKİ continues to protect the sea and water basins of Istanbul by operating 89 wastewater plants on a 7/24 basis.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) continues its struggle against mucilage, which is seen in Erdek, Yalova, Mudanya, Gemlik, Gebze, Gelibolu, Kocaeli, Tekirdag, Istanbul and Adalar coasts, as well as in the Aegean and Black Seas. Within the framework of the action plan prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, it carries out cleaning works in the Sea of Marmara with all its possibilities.

IMM CLEANED 45 PERCENT OF MUSILAGE

In the study started on 8 June with the units of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, 4 thousand 172 cubic meters of mucilage was collected. IMM Maritime Services Directorate, alone, cleared 2 thousand 516 cubic meters of mucilage from the shores of Istanbul. It removed 20 percent of the total pollution in 45 days.

INTERVENTION IN THE MUSILAGE FROM BOTH LAND AND SEA

IMM intervenes both from the sea and from the land against the mucilage that threatens both the bottom and the top of the Marmara Sea. It participates in the clean-up activities with 7 Sea Surface Cleaning Boats (DYT) and Dredger Dredgers (DTG). On land, 70 coastal cleaning teams consisting of 13 personnel work hard to purify the beaches from mucilage.

DUMP SHIP WITHOUT CLEANING FEATURE IS BACKED

On the other hand, at a time when the cleaning works were just beginning and the mucilage was intense, IMM also commissioned a dump vessel designed to carry all kinds of dredged materials. İBB Dökü-2 ship stored the mucilage collected by DTG and DYTs on the sea in order to save time. However, since new methods such as towing by means of vacuum trucks from the shore were determined both for the reduction of the density in the early times and for the more efficient collection of mucilage, the dump vessel and DTG, which did not have sea surface cleaning feature, were put into the background.

STRONG SUPPORT FOR WORK

The strongest support in terms of equipment and personnel continues to mucilage cleaning works carried out under the coordination of IMM, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. All facilities in this regard will be used in line with the requirements.

89 WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT WORKS 7/24

On the other hand, IMM is not content with just cleaning the polluted sea. It also prevents the entry of wastewater into both sea and water basins. In this context, İSKİ meticulously protects all water basins in Istanbul by continuing to operate 89 wastewater treatment plants on a 365 days and 24 hours basis.

FISH DEATHS ARE NOT IN BÜYÜKÇEKMECE DAM

Also, the place where fish deaths occurred in Büyükçekmece is not in the dam. Büyükçekmece Dam, one of Istanbul's water resources, is carefully protected. There is no pollution in the dam. Büyükçekmece Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant, which also serves Büyükçekmece and the surrounding districts, continues to operate 7/24 without stopping.
