Cardata, the largest data and used pricing company in the automotive industry, listed the best-selling car models in the used car market in May. According to the list prepared with data from Cardata's comprehensive data pool, Renault Megane was the most preferred car in the second hand in May. This model was followed by Fiat Egea, Volkswagen Passat, Renault Symbol and Fiat Linea, respectively. In the Cardata research, it was also noteworthy that in May, second-hand cars with diesel fuel and manual transmission were mostly preferred.

Cardata General Manager Hüsamettin Yalçın stated that due to the increase in exchange rates, high interest rates and the chip crisis, the sales of zero-kilometer vehicles will decrease slightly in the summer months and said, “In the summer months, we foresee approximately 6 times the number of individual sales of new vehicles. Especially in the May-September period, we estimate that the monthly average used vehicle sales will not fall below 180 thousand units. "It is actually an opportunity to buy a second-hand vehicle now and in the short term from now on, as the market will rise until the end of the year." Hüsamettin Yalçın also added that the chip crisis will not create a major supply problem as in 2020.

In the Turkish automotive market, which reached high sales volumes in the first half of the year and exceeded 10-year averages, demand is expected to shift to second-hand vehicles in June. Making evaluations about the automotive market, Husamettin Yalçın, General Manager of Cardata, said, “During the January-April period, an average of 65 thousand zero-kilometer vehicles were sold per month. In the same period, a total of 260 thousand passenger and light commercial vehicles were sold, a significant increase compared to previous years. This was actually expected. In order not to be affected by the effect of the postponed demand, the reflection of the increasing need for mobility and the constantly increasing prices, the consumer rushed to zero vehicles in the first half of the year. However, we anticipate that zero-kilometer vehicle sales will decrease in summer due to the ongoing increase in exchange rates, high interest rates and the chip crisis. It is a fact that the increase in zero vehicle prices will be more evident since June. Nevertheless, we think that the average monthly sales of zero-kilometer vehicles will not fall below 35 thousand units in the May-September period ”.

"An average of 180 thousand second-hand vehicles will be sold per month"

Cardata General Manager Hüsamettin Yalçın stated that the demand for second-hand vehicles will increase with the decrease in zero-kilometer vehicle sales and the relaxation of pandemic measures especially in June and said, “Used vehicle sales have been increasing continuously since April. We expect this increase to increase gradually by about 2 percent to 3 percent each month from June until the end of the year. We anticipate about 6 times the number of single sales of second-hand vehicles in the summer months. Especially in the May-September period, we estimate that the average monthly used vehicle sales will not fall below 180 thousand units. As a result, we are entering a very active period in both second-hand and zero-kilometer vehicles. On the other hand, the effect of increasing demand will increase the prices of used vehicles and the increase in exchange rates will increase the prices of new vehicles. "It is actually an opportunity to buy a second hand vehicle now and in the short term from now on, as the market will rise until the end of the year."

"The effects of the chip crisis will increase second hand vehicle prices and sales"

Referring to the problems caused by the global chip crisis in the supply of zero vehicles, Husamettin Yalçın, General Manager of Cardata, said, “The chip crisis is expected to be on our agenda for a long time. We receive the news that many factories abroad have stopped production due to this crisis. New factories are added to these factories every day. The continuation of this crisis will direct citizens who have money in their pocket and want to buy a zero-kilometer vehicle in this period to buy second-hand vehicles. With the increase in demand, there will be an increase in used vehicle prices. However, we believe that we will not have a problem similar to the supply crisis we experienced last year, as brands are not affected by the chip crisis or can solve the technical problems that the crisis will create. Of course, it is a fact that brands that are not affected by the crisis will reach very good sales figures in the zero-kilometer vehicle market this year ”.
