The first day of CEV Continental Cup hosted by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality witnessed women's group matches.

The CEV Continental Cup, organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality together with the Turkish Volleyball Federation and hosted by the Turkish Volleyball Federation, started.

The international organization, which is the second round of the European Continental Cup Olympic qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will continue at İnciraltı Sports Facilities until May 9. In the CEV Continental Cup, Serbia, Slovenia, Poland, Greece, Finland, Czechia and Belarus are competing in women in addition to Turkey, and Slovenia, Lithuania, Italy, Hungary, Latvia, Estonia and England are competing in men as well as Turkey.

Each country participates in the organization with two teams, men and women. In the case of equal wins in the matches of men's and women's teams, where the countries come face to face, a golden match is applied to determine the winner. Countries that finished their groups in the top five in the CEV Continental Cup will receive the final ticket. The finals will be held in the Netherlands in June. Teams that succeed in the finals will receive the Tokyo ticket.

Merve Çelebi - Bahanur Gökalp and Selin Yurtsever - Dilara Gedikoğlu represent our country for women, Volkan Göğtepe - Murat Giginoğlu and Sefa Urlu - Selçuk Şekerci for men.

The men's group series will be held on Friday, May 7th. On the same day, women's quarter-final and semi-final matches will be played. On Saturday, May 8, besides men's quarter and final matches, women's fifth, third and final matches will be completed and an award ceremony will be held.

On Sunday, May 9, there will be a top five row fight for men. After the fifth, third and final match, the organization will end with the men's award ceremony.
