IMM handled the points that pose an accident risk in the city's road transport network. Black spots on the roads were identified in the first place. Projects to correct these points were produced and the UTK process was initiated. Taking advantage of the decrease in traffic during the full closure, the projects for which the UTK decision was made were accelerated. First of all, a road widening study was carried out at the exact turn in Ataköy Adnan Kahveci Boulevard. Driving safety has been ensured by extending the road where many fatal accidents have occurred so far from 7 meters to 10 meters. The aim is to correct all manufacturing errors in Istanbul's road transport network as soon as possible.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) accelerated its efforts for dangerous points in the city's road transport network during the 17-day complete closure process. The aim is to make Istanbul's roads safe for 16 million citizens as soon as possible. Injury and fatal accidents, to minimize.

THE PROCESS IS EXECUTING IN ACCORDANCE WITH UTK DECISIONS

In the first stage, the points where drivers and pedestrians are constantly exposed to accidents due to faulty manufacturing in the transportation network were determined. Later, projects were developed to eliminate errors at these points where accidents occurred intensely. The Transport and Traffic Commission (UTK) process has been initiated for the work done. The projects for which the UTK decision was made started to be implemented. During the complete closure process, the decrease in traffic was also evaluated, and work on dangerous points in the transportation network was accelerated.

IT WAS WAITING FOR YEARS OF CORRECTION

One of the most painful black spots on Istanbul roads is the sharp bend in Ataköy Adnan Kahveci Boulevard that caused fatal accidents. This region has been the subject of many media coverage of vehicles flying over the bridge. At the sharp juncture that citizens have been asking to be corrected for years, road expansion work has been initiated in accordance with the UTK decision. The road has been expanded by 43 percent, making it suitable for vehicles to turn more easily.

WIDTH OF THE ROAD INCREASED TO 10 METERS

Hakan Ergan, Deputy Regional Director of IMM Road Maintenance and Repair, made the following statement about the work carried out:
“We are doing road expansion works in Bakırköy District, Ataköy Adnan Kahveci Boulevard. We evaluated these studies within the scope of 17-day curfews and we aim to complete them before the bans end. There was a sharp bend here. As the drivers using this road know very well, the drivers who could not get their speed caused fatal and injured accidents here. We are currently doing a road expansion work here. By extending the existing road from 7 meters to 10 meters, we will enable this bend to be turned more comfortably. We identify the problems at points where many accidents occur in Istanbul and move on to the project design phase. Then we offer solutions that prevent accidents and relieve the traffic. “

WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH PANDEMIC MEASURES

The teams of the IMM Road Maintenance and Infrastructure Coordination Department, who took part in the works, worked in accordance with the pandemic measures. Mask, distance and cleaning rules were meticulously followed.
