The monastery, which is thought to have been founded in Trabzon during the reign of Alexios and took its final shape in the 3th century after several repairs, is preparing to open its doors to local and foreign tourists in the new tourism season after restoration and survey works. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Murat Zorluoğlu said, "Our Girls' Monastery, one of the distinguished places of our city, will contribute to tourism as a culture and art center in every field of art from music to theater, from painting to literature."

The Girls Monastery, which dates back to the 19th century in the district of Ortahisar of Trabzon, is aimed to be among the favorite places of local and foreign tourists in this tourism season with its renewed face.

The monastery, which is located at the point that dominates the city in Boztepe District and is built on two terraces, is surrounded by a high protection wall, almost like a castle.

2014 million 2019 thousand 2 lira was spent for the monastery, whose restoration and survey works were initiated in 681 in accordance with the original cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Metropolitan Municipality.

The ownership of the monastery, whose historical texture is highlighted, was given to Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality. With its living museums, performance events and art galleries, the monastery is aimed to add a distinct liveliness to the cultural and artistic life of the city.

It is stated that the monastery, estimated to have been founded in the 3th century during the reign of Alexios, was repaired several times and took its final shape in the 14th century.

Striking with its proximity to the city center, the Girls' Monastery consists of a rock church with "holy water" in the south and a chapel and a few cells at its entrance. In the rock church, there are inscriptions, portraits of Theodora, the wife of 3rd Alexios, and his mother Eirene.

A project including various works was prepared by the Metropolitan Municipality in order to bring the monastery to the forefront in tourism, which is still popular with domestic and foreign tourists with its historical texture.

Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Murat Zorluoğlu said that the Girls Monastery, which stands out with its location, city and sea view, is one of the important tourism centers of the city.

Stating that they are preparing the monastery for the new tourism season within the scope of Kovid-19 measures, Zorluoğlu said, "We are planning to work on a gallery and an art center to present the 4rd and 3th floors of the 4-storey campus, which is used as a guest house in the monastery by our Metropolitan Municipality, to the service of artists and art lovers." said.

Stating that they are planning to build a modern cafeteria in the monastery to meet the social needs of the visitors, Zorluoğlu said:

“Our related departments are working on the solution of the parking lot problem of the monastery, whose night lighting has been completed. In this context, we accelerated our work before the new tourism season. Our Girls' Monastery, one of the distinguished venues of our city, will contribute to tourism as a culture and art center in every field of art, from music to theater, from painting to literature, ”he said.
